Best Gwynn build in Destiny Rising

Do you fear death?

Gwynn is the first limited-time character in Destiny: Rising and is one of the strongest DPS characters at the game’s launch. If you decided to pull for this wandering executioner, you need the strongest build to dominate leaderboards.

Gwynn is a close-range damage dealer with melee abilities. She must get up close to do damage, but there are ways for her to sustain herself without constantly relying on the team’s support and defense characters.

Here are all Gwynn’s abilities in Destiny: Rising:

  • Energy Severance (Passive): Defeating a combatant generates one Void Spirit (One-second cooldown). Approaching Void Spirits picks them up and regenerates health.
  • Void Dance (Signature): Deals damage to combatants within six meters and regenerates health. If there are any Void Spirits within 10 meters (including picked up ones), they will be launched to deal additional damage.
  • Soul Assault (Signature): Blinks up to 12 meters ahead, dealing damage and Confining enemies. Also grants damage resistance.
  • Soul Harvest (Super): Enters the Super state and generates six Void Spirits.

Gwynn’s main gameplay loop is creating Void Spirits to deal high damage with the Void Dance. As you unlock Reilc Traits, you’ll get more quality of life additions to generate and collect Void Spirits. For the Super rotation, you want to use the Void Dance beforehand to launch any surrounding Void Spirits, then use your Super and Void Dance again.

Best Gwynn weapons in Destiny Rising

Gwynn wields a sidearm as a primary weapon and a shotgun as a heavy weapon, further leaning into her close-range DPS playstyle. You can use several weapons on her, both Exotic and Mythic.

Sidearm

Concerto is the Exotic Void sidearm that comes with a perk, Cadenza. Cadenza increases the weapon’s damage by 20 percent up to four stacks as you get final blows. The best part is the weapon’s second perk, Concertino. It transfers up to two Cadenza stacks to the Power weapon when you draw it and fully reloads it, further increasing your DPS.

If you don’t have access to the Exotic yet, there are two Mythic options: Chushingura and DEL6 Kokoretsi. Chushingura can roll the Facilitated Agreement perk that increases its damage by 60 percent when you empty your Power weapon’s magazine or if you have no Heavy ammo. You can pair it with All Comers Welcome to create a nice rotation between the two weapons.

The DEL6 Kokoretsi is also decent, with perks like Annihilation and Reincarnation. Both will greatly increase your damage, but have no synergy with your Power weapon.

Shotgun

The Octant Riot Disperser is an Exotic shotgun from Gauntlet: Onslaught. It can be challenging to get, as Onslaught is a raid equivalent in Destiny: Rising, but it has the highest damage potential, at least on paper.

If you don’t have the Exotic or are running Concerto, the Mythic options include Eternal Retribution and IST2 Niaatiks. Both have access to perks like Line Formation and Wound Counter to increase damage, reload speed, and fire rate when landing consecutive shots on the target.

Gwynn is already getting healing from Void Dance, so Artifacts can lean more into damage. Most of them are quite straightforward. The only one that’s more flexible is the second slot, where you can go for Healing Conjunction or Binging Planetsimal. Both provide healing, so go for the piece with better Attributes.

When it comes to Attributes, Artifacts in the first and second slot can roll defensive stats, and Artifacts in the third and fourth can roll offensive stats. Aim to get stats that increase your resistances and general defense in the first two slots. For offense, stats to increase your ability damage are a must: Ability Strength, Signature Boost, and Super Boost. Weapon Enhancement becomes more useful once you max out Gwynn’s Weapon Mastery, and Void Boost is also decent, especially if you have two Void weapons equipped.
