Battlefield‘s class system has always been at the heart of its large-scale warfare gameplay. In the latest installment, the Battlefield 6 classes remain the same, but this time, they have revamped traits and abilities.
Battfield 6 brings back the four classic classes: Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. Each class comes with its own signature weapons, gadgets, traits, training paths, and active abilities, creating distinct battlefield roles that encourage teamwork, tactical thinking, and role mastery.
In this guide, we break down all the BF6 classes in detail, explaining their core role so you can choose the one that fits your playstyle.

Battlefield 6 classes and abilities
Each class in BF6 features two distinct training paths (or field specs) that refine and enhance your playstyle within that role. These paths provide unique passive abilities or perks tailored to different tactical approaches. In addition, every class has access to one active ability, available regardless of the chosen specialization.
Classes also come equipped with exclusive gadgets (two gadget slots) and throwable equipment designed to complement their specific roles. However, all classes share a common default throwable, the Frag Grenade.
Assault

The Assault class is the spearhead of any push, built for aggressive engagements and high-pressure assaults. Armed with versatile rifles, mobility-focused abilities, and the option to take an extra primary weapon, they thrive in breaking through enemy lines, disrupting fortified positions, and creating openings for the rest of the squad to secure objectives.
Signature Weapon | Signature Gadget | Signature Trait |
---|---|---|
Assault rifle – Faster draw times. Fire sooner when exiting a sprint. | Adrenaline Injector – Temporarily boosts sprint speed while reducing explosive and incendiary damage. Also provides brief resistance to and clears the effects of Flash and Stun Grenades. | Mission Focused – Faster progress with objectives, including arming and disarming M-COM explosives. Quicker cooldown for your in-combat state, allowing squadmates to deploy on you sooner. |

Can you change class in Battlefield 6?

Yes, BF6 lets you swap classes mid-match. You’ll choose from the four available roles at the start, but if the fight shifts, you can change on the fly.
After being taken out or when respawning, an on-screen prompt (for example, Y on PC) lets you switch to any class and even adjust your loadout before jumping back into the action.
