Pretty sure the "red Sox" were called the Swatting Sultans, which is where the term "swatter" came from. This may have just been a nickname for the team, but it's the closest thing to a team name they every actually mention, and "swatting Sultans" as a nickname doesn't make sense for a team that historically sucked ass.
