The original companions are the majority of the reason we love the trilogy. Andromeda tried to move on past their storylines and time period, and the result was underwhelming because of a lack of depth and emotional connection to the characters.
ME3 also failed to give us closure on any of our companions. We don’t know who survived, where they are, or who they grew to become. We don’t know if our LI’s moved on, or if they got to be with Shepard in the Perfect Destroy ending.
It would make for a very interesting experience to actually learn how these things played out (even if they have no bearing on the new story) just so trilogy fans could have closure.
