Technically paper Mario was the sequel. Issues with copyright just kept them from officially making it one so rebranded it's series title off the artstyle

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Leak Confirms Controversial Change

On the surface this sounds bad, but players have looked into the shiny system in ZA and this has it's benefits. Shiny encounters get saved to a special part of memory and if met, as long as save, will always respawn there til caught or ko'd, assuming species spawns in the zone at time you visit. Saves 10 maximum.
