In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, all Heart Pieces can only be found by exploring the world and interacting with content outside of the main story. You must acquire four Pieces of Heart to increase your Hearts in Wind Waker, and because there is a total of 44 Heart Pieces to find, you can gain an additional 11 Hearts if you find every Heart Piece in Wind Waker.

There are four bottles Wind Waker players can get throughout their journeys in the Great Sea, only one of which is given as part of the main story.

You can get Heart Pieces in Wind Waker by completing minigames, hunting down Treasure Charts and locating their treasures, completing quests and side objectives, or by finding hidden Pieces of Heart throughout the many dungeons and island puzzles throughout the game. All Minigame Heart Pieces In Wind Waker

Killer Bee Hide and Seek

  • Prerequisites: None
  • Location: D-2

To get the Killer Bee Hide and Seek Heart Piece, Wind Waker players must find all four of the Killer Bees' hiding places in their hide-and-seek challenge. Talk to Mrs. Marie to begin this minigame, which also unlocks the ability to gift Joy Pendants and eventually earn the Cabana Deed, which is required to progress later in the game.

Sinking Ships Minigame

  • Prerequisites: None
  • Location: D-2

To get the Sinking Ships minigame Heart Piece, Wind Waker players must find all three ships in the Sinking Ships minigame before they run out of cannonballs. Each attempt costs 10 Rupees, and if you are successful, you'll get a Piece of Heart.

If you beat the record of 20, you also get a Treasure Chart.

Post Sorting Minigame

  • Prerequisites: None
  • Location: F-2

To get the Post Sorting Heart Piece, Wind Waker players must successfully sort 25 letters in the Mail Sorting minigame on Dragon Roost Island. You will be asked to mail a special letter, and will receive a Piece of Heart after some time in-game.

Hit Orca 500x Minigame

  • Prerequisites: Must get Nayru's Pearl from Jabun
  • Location: B-7

To get Orca's Heart Piece, Wind Waker players must return to the mainland of Outset Island after getting Nayru's Pearl, then initiate Orca's swordsman challenge. You can only do this after getting the Hero's Sword and returning to Orca later on.

Carefully dodge his attacks and time your own to hit him 500x before you are hit three times, and he will reward you with a Piece of Heart.

Barrel Shooting Minigame

  • Prerequisites: None
  • Location: C-2

To get the cannon minigame Heart Piece, Wind Waker players must ​​​​​​​sail to C-2 and speak with Salvatore. You must sink 10 ships before time runs out to get this Piece of Heart, and each attempt costs 50 Rupees.

Auction House Minigame

To get the Auction House Heart Piece, Wind Waker​​​​​​​ players must ​​​​​​​go to the Auction House at night and win a handful of auctions. Eventually, a Piece of Heart will be the reward. Save up a lot of Rupees and learn the Song of Passing to win more auctions faster.

Flying Minigame Contest

  • Prerequisites: Upgraded Magic Meter, Deku Leaf

  • Location: D-2

To get the Deluxe Picto Box Heart Piece, Wind Waker​​​​​​​ players must ​​​​​​​first get the Deluxe Picto Box by upgrading the regular Picto Box with a Firefly from Forest Haven. Take a photo of the woman wearing orange with her arms crossed, then show her the picture.

You'll get Treasure Chart 33, but that's not the end – talk to her again and she will ask you to take another photo and show it to a man wearing a green striped shirt, the NPC who often talks about taking long walks around the island. Take her picture, show it to the man in green, then go to the coffee shop after a day has passed and talk to the woman in orange again to get a Piece of Heart.

Zunari's Trading Quest

  • Prerequisites: Delivery Bag
  • Location: D-2

To get the Zunari's Trading Quest Heart Piece, Wind Waker​​​​​​​ players must ​​​​​​​talk to Zunari (the Sail merchant) on Windfall Island after acquiring the Delivery Bag. This will initiate a Great-Sea spaning trading quest not unlike that found in Link's Awakening. Complete this Wind Waker trading sequence, and you will be rewarded with a Piece of Heart.

Joy Pedestals On Windfall Island

  • Prerequisites: Must start Zunari's Trading Quest

To get the Withered Deku Trees Heart Piece, Wind Waker​​​​​​​ players must ​​​​​​​sail to eight locations across the Great Sea after using a Bottle to collect Forest Water. Forest Water only stays active for 20 minutes, so you must use the Ballad of Gales to get to all eight locations. Talk to the Great Deku Tree to learn the locations of all eight trees.

Maggie's Letter

Needle Rock Isle

  • Location: A-5

To get the Needle Rock Isle Heart Piece, Wind Waker​​​​​​​ players must ​​​​​​​get the Bait Bag and purchase a Hyoi Pear, then sail to tile A-5. Land on the island and use the Hyoi Pear to take control of a seagull. Fly to the top of the island and run into the switch to extinguish a circle of flames around a chest that contains the piece of heart.

Greatfish Isle

  • Prerequisites: Deku Leaf
  • Location: B-4

To get the Greatfish Isle Heart Piece, Wind Waker​​​​​​​ players must use the Deku Leaf to fly onto a rocky outcropping with a chest on the northwest side of the island.

Six-Eye Reef

  • Prerequisites: None
  • Location: D-4

To get the Six-Eye Reef Heart Piece, Wind Waker​​​​​​​ players must ​​​​​​​find and enter a submarine off the coast of this island, then defeat all enemies inside to reveal a chest that contains a Piece of Heart. This is significantly easier if you get the Master Sword first.

To get the Rock Spire Shop Ship Heart Piece, Wind Waker​​​​​​​ players must ​​​​​​​save up 950 Rupees and go to Beedle's special store outside of Rock Spire on tile B-3. You must get the Bigger Wallet, which holds up to 1000 Rupees, to purchase this.

Rock Spire Isle

  • Prerequisites: Bombs

To get the Rock Spire Isle Heart Piece, Wind Waker​​​​​​​ players must ​​​​​​​blow up both of the enemy ships patrolling Rock Spire Isle, then dredge up their treasure with the Grappling Hook. One of the two chests should contain a Piece of Heart.

Secret Windmill Lighthouse Heart Piece

  • Prerequisites: Bow
  • Location: D-2

To get the secret Windmill Heart Piece, Wind Waker​​​​​​​ players must ​​​​​​​first acquire the Bow, then go to the top of Windfall Island and climb to the top of the windmill. You must use the Wind's Requiem song to change the direction of the wind, use the Deku Leaf to make it to the top, then shoot a torch with the Bow to re-light the lighthouse at the top of the windmill.

Secret Island Near Windfall Island

  • Prerequisites: Must have reactivated the lighthouse
  • Location: D-2

To get the secret island Heart Piece on Windfall Island, Wind Waker​​​​​​​ players must ​​​​​​​first reveal the island by activating the lighthouse at the top of the Windmill in Windfall Island. Then, use the Deku Leaf (and adjust the direction of the wind) to glide to the newly-revealed island just next to the bomb shop and dock.

Outset Island Pig Digging

  • Prerequisites: Power Bracelets
  • Location: B-7

To get the Pig Heart Piece on Outset Island, Wind Waker​​​​​​​ players must ​​​​​​​first get the Power Bracelets by completing the Fire Mountain dungeon on tile F-3, which itself requires you to acquire the Ice Arrows.

Return to Outset Island and pick up the gigantic pig at the top of the western side of town, and bring it across the bridge to the east side of town, and look for a particularly dark patch of dirt. Spread some Bait on this patch and watch as the giant pig digs up a Piece of Heart for Link!
