Several enemies in The Wind Waker wear special jewelry or decorations that can be collected by Link with the Grappling Hook. Though these enemies tend to drop their Spoils items upon defeat, you will almost always get them by Grappling the enemy first, too.

RELATED

The Wind Waker remains one of the most important games in the mythology of the Zelda franchise. Here are the ways it changed everything.

You may have noticed Moblins (the large boar-like enemies) wear a Skull Necklace around their neck. Indeed, Skull Necklaces can be collected from these enemies, and as a reward in some other locations. This guide explains where to find Skull Necklaces and Moblins in The Wind Waker and what to do with Skull Necklaces.

How To Get Skull Necklaces In Zelda: The Wind Waker

In The Wind Waker, Skull Necklaces can be obtained from two sources: as drops from Moblin enemies, or contained in various chests around the world.

  • Moblins are the torch-carrying, spear-wielding pig-like enemies that you encounter for the first time in the Forsaken Fortress. These enemies re-appear in multiple locations, and each has a chance to drop a Skull Necklace. You can farm Skull Necklaces from the encounter in Hyrule Castle after unfreezing time.
  • Rarely, you can find Skull Necklaces inside of treasure chests. Look on the enemy-filled watchtower platforms as you sail the Great Ocean, which usually reward a chest with somewhat random rewards after you defeat everyone on the platform.

When you encounter a Moblin, use your Grappling Hook and aim it at the enemy first. Connect with a hit, and you'll rob them of an item from their item pool. In the Moblin's case, hitting it with a Grappling Hook has a high chance to yield a Skull Necklace as long as it is wearing one.

Zelda The Wind Waker Get Skull Necklace Dampa Old Man Maggie Father

Skull Necklaces are one of several giftable collectibles in The Wind Waker. Held in your Spoils bag, Skull Necklaces can be given to two NPCs in the game, both of whom can be found on the quaint Windfall Island:

  • Find Dampa and give him 3x Skull Necklaces, to play a special minigame that requires you to find all three of Dampa's pigs within two minutes. Dampa can be found near the Bomb Shop near the docks and wears a red skullcap.
    • You can play this minigame as many times as you like, as long as you have 3x Skull Necklaces in your Spoils bag. Each time you successfully find all three of his pigs, you will earn a Purple Rupee worth 50 Rupees.
  • Find the old man (Maggie's father) inside the top floor of the Auction House and give him 20x Skull Necklaces to get a Treasure Chart.
    • Before you complete the Forsaken Fortress for the second time, this is the man who gets alerted when you walk near the tree near the mailbox.
    • The old man will only take your Skull Necklaces after you complete the second Forsaken Fortress dungeon, after Link frees the old man's daughter, Maggie.
