There are four major giftable Spoils items in The Wind Waker: the Golden Feather, the Joy Pendant, the Skull Necklace, and of course the Knight's Crest. Of the four, the Knight's Crest is the hardest to find as they are only given as a reward from specific chests or high-level enemies.

It's worth the effort to get Knight's Crests fast in The Wind Waker, though, because when you collect 10, you will be able to unlock one of the strongest combat moves in the game. This guide explains what Knight's Crests are for in The Wind Waker and lists several sources where you can find Knight's Crest drops or chests.

How To Get Knight's Crest In Zelda: The Wind Waker

There are two ways to get Knight's Crests in The Wind Waker: by defeating Darknut enemies, or by finding them in specific chests throughout the world.

  • Darknuts, the bulky Knight-like enemies you will first encounter in the Tower of the Gods, will almost always drop a Knight's Crest on defeat. You will find several Darknut enemies in Hyrule Castle after you complete the Tower of the Gods, too.
    • You can also use the Grappling Hook against an unarmored Darknut for a chance to steal its Knight's Crest.
  • Some chests, particularly in dungeons, contain a Knight's Crest.
    • For example, one of the four chests just outside the entrance to the Gohma boss fight contains a Knight's Crest.

The best way to farm Knight's Crest is to hunt down Darknuts, and always use your Grappling Hook before you defeat them for double the chance to get a Knight's Crest. If you do this, you'll all but guarantee that you get a Knight's Crest from each Darknut you encounter. You will find these enemies within the Tower of the Gods as well as in the unfrozen Hyrule Castle.

If you don't have enough by the time you finish up in Hyrule Castle, head to the Savage Labyrinth on Outset Island and progress into the later levels when Darknuts begin to appear.

What Are Knight's Crests Used For In The Wind Waker?

In Zelda: The Wind Waker, Knight's Crests are used to gift to Orca, the swordsman on Outset Island who initially taught Link how to wield the Hero's Sword. If you return to Orca with 10x Knight's Crests, he will teach Link a new move: the Hurricane Spin.

This special move allows Link to charge up his blade with Magic, then rapidly spin like a tornado for a few seconds. You can control where Link goes during the spinning animation, though it's a bit hard to control. This attack will defeat all but the strongest enemies in The Wind Waker, or enemies that are armored or have on-hit effects (like electrified ChuChus).
