A crafty Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player recently tapped into their inner Jedi to recreate the iconic X-Wing starfighter from the original Star Wars trilogy. Nintendo’s latest open-world RPG epic broke the traditional Legend of Zelda mold in several ways, with the most noteworthy being the new crafting mechanic that allows Link to design and forge his own custom weapons, buildings, and vehicles in his latest quest to save Hyrule from the evil Ganondorf.

Naturally, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s building mechanics have led to many inspired creations from players, who have posted their creations on social media in the months since the game’s release. Some of these players have even drawn inspiration from popular games and movies - such as Star Wars. Using Link’s handy Ultrahand and Fuse abilities, fans have managed to recreate classic Star Wars vehicles like TIE Fighters, AT-AT walkers, Podracers, and even the modified N1 Starfighter from the later seasons of The Mandalorian.

No list of Star Wars vehicles would be complete without the Rebel Alliance’s X-wing starfighter, and now a Reddit user by the handle of Last_Amphibian6989 has recreated this legendary Star Wars spacecraft in Tears of the Kingdom. They posted a brief video clip of their creation to r/tearsofthekingdom earlier this weekend, which shows their custom X-Wing taking off with the power of wind turbines and Zonai batteries. Last_Amphibian6989’s X-wing design is quite faithful to the one from the movies, complete with its distinct X-shaped wings and four energy cannons to blast away enemies.

Aside from Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon, the X-Wing starfighter is easily one of the most recognizable vehicles in the Star Wars franchise. Luke Skywalker famously used one of these sturdy and nimble starfighters to destroy the dreaded Death Star at the end of Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope, a battle that has been reenacted throughout several Star Wars video games. It was prized by the Rebel Alliance for its versatility in combat, and an upgraded version was used by the Resistance during their war against the First Order in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy.

Link and Luke Skywalker share many classic hero traits, so it seems rather fitting that the former gets to fly the latter’s legendary X-Wing starfighter in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom thanks to the hard work of Last_Amphibian6989. Their custom X-Wing captures the famous design of the Rebellion’s workhorse ship quite well, and could certainly come in handy during Link’s own battle to free the world from the forces of darkness.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
