Players will be leaving the Great Sky Island in Tears of the Kingdom with very weak armor. Once they touch back down on The Surface of Hyrule, they should follow their main quest objective marker. This will take them to a safe place where they can also buy a cheap armor set.

The Hylian Set is composed of a Hylian Hood, Hylian Trousers, and a Hylian Tunic. They can be easily replaced by better armor that players will unlock in their Tears of the Kingdom playthrough. However, they're handy for beginners or for those that can't afford a complete set of the more-expensive armor.

Hylian Armor Location (TotK)

If players go directly to Lookout Landing after leaving the Great Sky Island, they'll be able to find the store that sells all pieces of the Hylian Armor Set. Lookout Landing can be marked on the map by going into the Adventure Log and setting the main quest as the objective. Since the map will be blank at the beginning, players should mark the objective to make navigating easier.

Once in Lookout Landing, find and speak to Purah, then proceed with some of the story events. After Link is given the green light to enter the Lookout Landing Shelter, he can go to the armor store at -0209, 0082, 0019.

Hylian Armor Cost

At this point, Link should at least have the Archaic Legwear and the Archaic Tunic. This means he's only missing armor for the head. Fortunately, the Hylian Hood is fairly cheap. Link will probably have 0 Rupees on hand, but players can earn money by selling Materials or Meals if they absolutely must have the Hylian Hood.

Here are the cost for each Hylian Armor piece:

  • Hylian Hood: 70 Rupees
  • Hylian Tunic: 130 Rupees
  • Hylian Trousers: 120 Rupees

If this is the first armor set that players find, then they should focus on prioritizing the Hylian Hood. While each piece of the Hylian Set offers 3 base defense, players will soon need weather-resistant gear such as the Snowquill Tunic. Most armor has a base defense of 3, and while the Hylian Set is pretty much available from the start, it doesn't have any special effects.

Can You Upgrade the Hylian Armor Set?

The Hylian Armor can be upgraded. However, it will require the help of a Great Fairy in order to do so. If players intend on maxing out the Hylian Armor, they'll need to complete all "Serenade to A Great Fairy" side quests.

Even though the Hylian Armor is technically part of a set, it does not have a Set Bonus. This means Link can mix-and-match his armor with the Hylian Set, but getting each piece of the set to level 2 won't do anything special. Thus, players may just want to choose one of the pieces of Hylian Armor and focus on upgrading that and that alone of the set.

Here are the upgrades that players will be looking at for each piece of the Hylian Set:

Bokoblins are the main monsters that players will be killing for this armor set. Unfortunately, the higher the upgrade, the higher quality the Bokoblin Monster Parts:

  • Regular Bokoblins (Red) and Blue Bokoblins are common enemies. They're also the easiest to defeat, so it shouldn't be too hard finding them. Start by looking near the Hyrule Field Skyview Tower.
  • Players can find Black and Silver Bokoblins in The Depths, but they're also found at Monster Camps on The Surface.

Remember: The upgrades want Bokoblin Monster Parts, and not Boss Bokoblins. It should also be noted that Bokoblins won't always drop what players need. Thus, players will want to defeat as many as they can. The Bokoblins, like any other monster, will reset every Blood Moon, so players shouldn't have to worry about running out of monsters to farm.

Finally, there's Amber. This ore is quite common and can be farmed from just about any Ore Deposit (except Luminous Ore Deposits). The downside to this is that the 3-4 star upgrades for the Hylian Set call for 20-30 Amber. While this doesn't sound like a lot when Amber is so common, it's better to save the Amber for other Armor Upgrades.
