One of the biggest additions to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the weapon-fusing mechanic. This allows players the opportunity to take their weapons (and shields) and fuse them with items to create some interesting combinations. For those that have watched the trailers for Tears of the Kingdom and the gameplay showcase from Nintendo, they might've noticed Link attaching a mushroom to a shield or even putting a shield onto a sword. There are so many possibilities with this new mechanic, and this guide will go over how to unlock weapon fusion and how it all works in the sequel to Breath of the Wild.
How to Unlock Weapon Fusion in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom players will be able to fuse weapons after completing the In-isa Shrine in the tutorial area at the start of Link's journey. Once the ability has been unlocked, players will need to make sure the weapon they want to fuse is in their hand, and then they can activate the power by holding the L button on their Switch controller and then choosing it from Link's power wheel.
Once the power is activated, players will then need to look at the item they want to fuse their weapon with and then confirm it by pressing the corresponding button at the bottom. In order for it to work properly, the item that players want to fuse to their weapon will have to be on the floor.
To fuse a weapon (or shield) with something from players' inventory, they must first go into Link's pockets and then 'Hold' whatever item they want to use for the fusion and then drop said item on the ground.
Luckily, players will be able to detach a fused item from a weapon without breaking the weapon by going into their inventory and selecting the weapon. To do so, hit the + button, tab over to the Weapons screen with L/R, highlight the fused weapon, and then select 'Destroy Fused Material.' Any weapons that are fusions will have a blue/greenish hue around them.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
