There are different species of monsters in Tears of the Kingdom, and each one drops their own materials. Players are going to need to farm these monster parts in order to strengthen their armor or make elixirs. One type of monster part/material are the Fire-Breath Lizalfos Tails.

Unlike regular Lizalfos Tails, Fire-Breath Lizalfos Tails can only be farmed from the appropriately-named Fire-Breath Lizalfos. These reptile-like monsters prefer the warmer regions of Hyrule. In Tears of the Kingdom, Fire-Breath Lizalfos Tails are used to upgrade two sets of armor that Link can obtain on his journey.

Where to Find Fire-Breath Lizalfos

loz totk fire breath lizalfos hyrule compendium

Although their Hyrule Compendium entry lists the Eldin Canyon and Gerudo Highlands, Fire-Breath Lizalfos spawn in the Gerudo Canyon and Eldin's Flank. When it's defeated, a Fire-Breath Lizalfos Tail has a higher chance of dropping a Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horn than it does a Fire-Breath Lizalfos Tail. This means players may have to defeat a handful before they can obtain at least one tail.

Fire-Breath Lizalfos can be one-shot by Ice-based attacks. Players can use an Ice Fruit, White Chuchu Jelly, or a weapon fused with a Sapphire.

While the tails can't be tracked by the Purah Pad's Sensor+, Fire-Breath Lizalfos can. To make farming easier:

  1. Players will want to get the Camera from Robbie ("Camera Work in The Depths") by speaking to him and Josha at Lookout Landing.
  2. Then, they'll need to get the Auto-Build Ability at the Great Abandoned Central Mine.
  3. Return to Lookout Landing, speak to Josha, and use Auto-Build to repair Robbie's hot-air balloon.
  4. Once Robbie returns to the Ancient Tech Lab in Hateno Village, players can go there to start the side quest for the Sensor+ and Hyrule Compendium.

To register the Fire-Breath Lizalfos to the compendium, simply take its picture. From there, players can track the Fire-Breath Lizalfos by going into the map with (-) and pressing Y-button to select and track anything registered in the compendium. The Sensor+ will then notify Link if there's a nearby Fire-Breath Lizalfos.

Eldin's Flank

Fire-Breath Lizalfos tend to walk the path along Eldin's Flank. Take the path north of the Sibajitak Shrine (2398, 3269, 0402). Somewhere around coordinates 2315, 3518, 0351, players will find the first Fire-Breath Lizalfos. Keep taking the path that winds down Eldin's Flank to find two more Fire-Breath Lizalfos.

There are also Fire-Breath Lizalfos above the Moshapin Shrine (2680, 1902, 0131) in Lake Intenoch Cave. Players should be able to find three Fire-Breath Lizalfos spread out in the area.

Gerudo Canyon

There's a camp of three Fire-Breath Lizalfos a little south of the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower (-2423, -2202, 0302). Players can either launch from the Skyview Tower and dive towards the coordinates -2375, -2297, 0312, or they can walk.

The Fire-Breath Lizalfos will only appear during the daytime. At night, there will be Ice-Breath Lizalfos instead.

If players are going to the Gerudo Canyon, they'll need heat-resistant armor or a heat-resistant buff:

  • Players can get the Desert Voe Headband from Kara Kara Bazaar (-3273, -2551, 0023) for one level of heat-resistance. They can buy the rest of the Desert Voe Set at the Gerudo Secret Shop in Gerudo Town (-3875, -2864, 0043).
  • If players prefer to use an Elixir, they can cook a monster part with a Cold Darner, White ChuchuJelly, or a Winterwing Butterfly to get a Chilly Elixir.

Where to Use Fire-Breath Lizalfos Tails

Snowquill Tunic Set Piece in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Fire-Breath Lizalfos Tails can be fused to a weapon to create a whip. It can also be fired fused to arrows. This will turn the arrow into a "fire arrow." A better way to use Fire-Breath Lizalfos Tails is for armor upgrades.

The Snowquill Set and the Yiga Set both require Fire-Breath Lizalfos Tails. Armor can be upgraded by helping the Stable Trotters awaken the Great Fairies in the "Serenade to a Great Fairy" side quest in the "Lucky Clover Gazette" side adventure.
