Collector's editions have been around in the gaming industry for quite some time now, and while there have been some pretty disastrous examples over the years, they're generally a great way for die-hard fans to get more out of their favorite series. The Legend of Zelda franchise is no stranger to these collector's editions, with even Ocarina of Time getting one back in the day. Now, Nintendo has just announced The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's collector's edition, and it's a fairly impressive package.

Set to release on May 12, 2023, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and one of the most anticipated sequels of all time, so it only makes sense that fans would want to own as much Tears of the Kingdom merch as they can on release. Retailing for $129.99, the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom collector's edition doesn't offer anything outstanding, but it has plenty of smaller bits to keep fans happy.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom collector's edition will look very familiar to anyone who's ever seen a collector's edition before. Following suit with the vast majority of other AAA collector's editions, Tears of the Kingdom's $130 package comes with an artbook, filled with various pieces of concept art and finalized images from the game. Along with this, an ICONART steel poster is included in the collector's edition, depicting the game's cover art from a wider angle, allowing for more detail.

Those who buy Tears of the Kingdom's collector's edition can also expect to find a set of four pins inside, all packaged neatly in a sleek black box. It's not currently known what's depicted on these pins, but eagle-eyed fans can spot a green-colored, rectangular pin sticking out of the box on the promotional art, which seems to indicate that these pins will be the hieroglyphs seen in-game. This edition also comes with an exclusive steelbook case for the game, with the cover art depicting one of the murals seen in an old Tears of the Kingdom trailer, where a group of warriors is seemingly worshiping a deity of some kind.

Thankfully, this collector's edition of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom does actually come with a copy of the game itself, with a physical card and standard Switch case being included. While this may seem like an obvious inclusion, gameless collector's editions have unfortunately continued to grow in the gaming industry, with Diablo 4's Collector's Box not including a copy of the actual game. All of these contents are nicely packaged into a sleek black box, featuring subtle gold lettering for the game's title.

As far as collector's editions go, this Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom one is pretty solid. With the standard edition of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom costing a whopping $70 now, fans are paying about an extra $60 to get all of these extra physical goodies, which seems relatively fair. However, when fans compare this collector's edition directly with Breath of the Wild's, the deal doesn't seem nearly as good. Breath of the Wild's Master Edition, which retailed for the same price, came with a slew of physical goodies including a unique Switch carrying case and a fairly large statue of the Master Sword. This collector's edition may be a bit of letdown for long-time fans of the franchise, but it's still a solid package for any collector.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is coming to Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.
