Nintendo has rolled out a small patch for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild’s Switch 2 and Switch versions, addressing Portuguese language issues and several other problems. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, along with its predecessor, are some of the most important games on the original Switch console, and with the recent major Switch 2 release, the company is rolling out some necessary updates.

Back in 2017, Breath of the Wild introduced a major change not only in the Zelda franchise itself but in the gaming industry as well. The action-adventure game set in the iconic Zelda universe became the Switch's first must-have title and quickly set a new path for the franchise. Building upon its success, Tears of the Kingdom appeared on the scene, improving almost every aspect of its predecessor and delivering one of the most impressive video games to date. Both games foster players’ creativity, though the latter takes the concept one step further by introducing an unbelievably accurate physics system that enables players to create the most unique and imaginative designs. Now, players can enjoy these two video game landmarks on the significantly more powerful Switch 2.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's Switch 2 Edition Breaks One Promise in the Best Way

While both Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild have received several improvements for the Switch 2 versions, the latest update targets all versions of the game, meaning original Switch owners will see these changes as well. Tears of the Kingdom patch 1.4.1 and Breath of the Wild patch 1.8.1 both address the Portuguese (Brazil) text and resolve a number of issues to improve the gameplay experience.

The updates will automatically download and install, though players need to make sure they are connected to the internet and have the “Auto-Updates” setting enabled. Nintendo also noted that those who purchased or upgraded to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild must apply this update to properly enjoy any added features or content.

Many Switch 2 titles have received upgrades—some of them, like BOTW, TOTK, and Metroid Prime 4, among others, are premium, and players have to pay to access them, while others, like Link's Awakening, Super Mario Odyssey, or Pokemon Scarlet offer free upgrades. While the latest patches for the two major Zelda games on Switch 1 and 2 are small, players on both consoles can look forward to a slightly more polished gameplay experience moving forward.
