The Legend of Zelda  series producer Eiji Aonuma reveals that a multiplayer Zelda  title could be in on the cards after Breath of the Wild  ships in 2017.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild  was one of the highlights of this year's E3 event, so much so that we thought it was one of the best games shown at the conference. While the game isn't scheduled to release until 2017, it appears that there are already a few interesting non-single-player ideas being thrown around for a follow-up title.

In a recent interview with IGN, series producer Eiji Aonuma hinted that after The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild  ships next year, he wants to take all the lessons learned and put them into a new multiplayer Zelda  title.

“I would like to take what I learned from Breath of the Wild and see if we can somehow fuse those learning points into another multiplayer Zelda. For example, with Triforce Heroes, which followed a similar format of Four Swords, there was a multiplayer involved in that game.”

This isn't the first time Aonuma has teased a new multiplayer Zelda title, but nothing ever came of it, what with the team keeping busy with Breath of the Wild  for the past few years. Beyond the possibility of a new multiplayer Zelda  title, Aonuma also stated that while the team has already done a lot of experimenting, they will continue to "experiment throughout the Zelda  franchise". Having said that, don't expect multiplayer any time soon, as Aonuma went on to confirm that Breath of the Wild will focus purely on a single-player experience

With the incorporation of a massive open-world, as well as the unique option to go directly to the final boss, there has been no shortage of experimenting on Breath of the Wild, and that comment bodes well for future Zelda  titles.

Should the hypothetical multiplayer game not happen, there is still a lot of ideas to draw from for future Zelda  titles. Just recently, Zelda  creator Shigeru Miyamoto stated that the development team had discussed the possibility of a spin-off starring Sheik, and that it could still happen at some point in the future. In addition to a game featuring Zelda's alter-ego as the protagonist, there's also the possibility that Linkle could get her own game, especially considering that Miyamoto stated that the main series will not feature a female Link.

Having said that, Nintendo's focus is undoubtedly all on Breath of the Wild  right now, and with the game   proving to be the Legend of Zelda game fans have been waiting for, it'll be some time before there's talk of a follow-up Zelda  game, multiplayer or otherwise.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild  is scheduled for a 2017 launch for Wii U and NX.
