A goofy-looking goblin from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been plushified for a more cuddly look. Its creator shared some background on why they created the little creature.
Bokoblins are a common beginner enemy throughout The Legend of Zelda series. Found as early as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, the Bokoblin has seen many different design changes since then. They tend to vary in color and weaponry while featuring skull motifs and cloth clothing. This design is kept close to the source in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as well.
Over on Reddit, lovetolerk uploaded a picture of a Bokoblin using crochet as the medium. The user says they have a friend who is a big Zelda fan, making anything related to the series a perfect DIY gift. As this friend also likes the monsters that populate Hyrule, the creator settled on crafting a red Bokoblin, as pig-like characters consistently return from the Zelda series' most influential games. They hinted that this may not be the only beastie that will become a stuffed animal.
Though monsters like these have had multiple design changes spanning the Zelda series' various confusing timelines, all the features of Breath of the Wild's Bokoblin are crocheted to cute perfection. Simple eyes and no visible mouth achieve a much less menacing look compared to the source. This is certainly clear when looking at the not-so-scary skull necklace. Toe and fingernails along with its horn look like little nubs instead of being overgrown and dirty. The loincloth becomes more akin to a belt and the bandages connect both halves of the arms.
Nintendo does in fact offer an officially licensed Bokoblin plush. However, it may be hard to find as its store page lists the Zelda plush as sold out. The only notice given is that, "this item is no longer available." Instead of resorting to alternative markets, a hand-crafted gift like this may scratch the Zelda series itch.
This interpretation of a Bokoblin looks to have some manners compared to its official counterpart. The soft look and nature of this beast would make the perfect pet plush. Even though it may be hard to find one in stores, Bokoblins can be found throughout Hyrule in many forms. There are also ways to get them to places they don't belong such as Tears of the Kingdom's Great Sky Island. While the user hasn't updated the post with how their friend responded to the gift, any Zelda enthusiast would jump for joy at the chance to have this stuffed animal. Maybe lovetolerk will grace the internet with the closely related Moblin or even an old-school Ganon next.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now for Nintendo Switch.
