Some players may think that because Princess Zelda is taking center stage in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, they will get all sorts of dialogue. In the past, Link has been known to be a silent protagonist, but Zelda often has a lot to say. However, much like Link, Zelda also seems to take the silent approach within Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. And because of that, it is up to the fairy Tri to fill in the blanks.

Throughout the game, Tri serves as the player's constant companion. Not only are they the main source of Zelda's unique powerset and a vital part of the story, but they are also where players get practically every single piece of dialogue. The important bits, the less important bits, and everything in between come from this powerful fairy, making them feel like the true voice of Hyrule.

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom's Tri Gives Hyrule a Voice

Since the beginning of Legend of Zelda, Link has always been on the silent side. No matter what is threatening the people of Hyrule, he has never really said any words. Instead, players often have to interpret what he is thinking or saying based on the things NPCs say or the way he visibly emotes. While some players think that giving him a voice is long overdue, this has been a staple forever, with there being no indication that it will ever change. But Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom had the chance to shake things up a bit.

Princess Zelda has talked a lot in the past, so it was only natural that some players would think she would talk throughout Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. However, she too remains silent during the entire adventure, with her mainly communicating via emotes as well. But it is often hard to tell a story through simple emotes. So, Grezzo has left it up to the fairy Tri to communicate what is actually happening within Hyrule.

Tri Helps Bring Lively Conversation to the World of Hyrule

Tri serves as Zelda's constant companion throughout Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, yet they are far more than just that. They are actually the main source of practically any sort of dialogue within the game. They give players context on what is happening, add pieces of dialogue to build on what NPCs are saying, and even share what they think some people are thinking. Additionally, they interpret every single one of Zelda's emotes, so that players are not left wondering what she is trying to say. Because of that, they are vital to practically every aspect of the game's storytelling.

Not only do they speak for Princess Zelda and the people of Hyrule, but they also serve as the major driving force behind the entire plot. Without them, there really would not be a game to begin with, as Hyrule would just get swallowed up by rifts without a single word. Plus, they bring a unique powerset along for the ride, making their inclusion a fun treat for fans.

After decades of Legend of Zelda games have featured a silent protagonist, it is unlikely that will change any time soon. So, including constantly talking characters feels like a great way to circumvent that limitation. Sure, players have gotten by without a fairy telling them everything that is going on. But, including companion characters like Tri really does help Grezzo tell the story better. And it also helps make Hyrule feel a bit more alive, as the people that reside within can actually have a bit of a voice during whatever wild adventure is occurring that week.
