Throughout The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, side quests take Zelda to places that may not have otherwise been explorable, or are blocked off until requirements are met. The second part of a two-part quest chain in Echoes of Wisdom, Cotton Candy Hunt is a side quest that takes players to a ruin in the southern area of the Faron Wetlands to discover the source of a familiar voice.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - How To Get Frog Ring (Jump Height Accessory)
To get the Frog Ring accessory, Echoes of Wisdom players must beat the game's fourth main dungeon – or at least, most of it.
This ruin is blocked until you start the Cotton Candy Hunt quest, but once inside, you will quickly discover a puzzle-laden maze leading to a familiar boss from an earlier side quest: Smog. This guide explains how to start this quest, how to get through the Hidden Ruin dungeon, and how to beat Smog in his second appearance – though it has the same boss mechanics, you'll have to fight Smog from a new perspective this time.
Echoes of Wisdom Cotton Candy Hunt Quest Location
To start the Cotton Candy Hunt quest in Echoes of Wisdom, there are two prerequisites.
- First, you must have completed the quest Let's Play A Game, which begins in the Eastern Temple to the west of Seesyde Village.
- Second, you must have completed the first four dungeons of the game to unlock the second half of the Rifts, then complete the Faron Temple dungeon.
Once you have sealed the Faron Rift, the local Deku Scrubs will start looking for any way they can get their beloved Cotton Candy again – and one appears to have found an entire monster made out of Cotton Candy nearby.
Talk to the Deku Scrub on the northeast side of Scrubton with two green buns on its head – just south of the Sweet Spot itself. Your goal in this quest is to find the floating Cotton Candy thing that the Scrub is describing, which as it turns out, is none other than Smog – the thunder cloud boss that you faced at the end of the Let's Play A Game quest.
Cotton Candy Hunt Quest Walkthrough
It's Not Cotton Candy – It's A Recurring Boss
Follow the route on the map above to find a gigantic Deku Scrub statue surrounded by torches. Kill the Drippitune nearby to stop the rain and light these Torches to reveal an entrance down to the Hidden Ruins beneath the statue.
Go through the door to enter the first puzzle room. Like the Eastern Temple dungeon, this dungeon features puzzles that require Zelda to fill a yellow box with Sparks.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - Secret Chief Talks Quest Guide
After completing the Jabul Waters main quest, the Secret Chief Talks Echoes of Wisdom side quest unlocks to the south.
If you did not learn the Spark Echo in the Eastern Temple, use a Bomb or a Bombflower to destroy one of them and take its Echo. This is an invaluable tool in this dungeon, as it essentially lets you skip past most of the puzzle mechanics by summoning Sparks directly into the yellow boxes.
If you would rather not cheese this puzzle mechanic, you can re-adjust the pathing of the Sparks in the room by summoning Crate and Boulder echoes so that they travel into the yellow box normally.
Enter the room to your right that unlocks after completing the puzzle to enter another puzzle room, with Sparks in a lower level beneath numerous spider webs. Using a Fire-creating Echo (like the Ignizol slime Echo), set the spider webs on fire and defeat the enemies in the room, then turn your attention to the top-right corner.
The yellow box in this room requires three Sparks to activate, so either by using your Spark Echoes or by re-routing the Sparks in the room, fill the yellow box to enter the room to your north.
In here, you can hit the yellow box if you use the Long Distance Summon ability that Tri gets after reaching Level 2. Hold down Y to charge up a Spark Echo, and release it while aimed at a 45 degree angle towards the yellow box on the other side of the chain to unlock the way forward.
You will enter a sidescrolling underground section with many Strandtula enemies and some Sparks in an underwater section. Continue to the right, of the room and use a Strandtula of your own to ascend up the far-right side, then continue to the water section.
You can get the Treasure Chest up top by using a Strandtula or a Platboom to get up and either defeat or jump over the Sparks that are moving around the platform. The chest contains a neat 20 Rupees.
You can use the Bind skill to move the existing Spark into the yellow box, but cannot summon Sparks directly onto it thanks to the climbing wall in the background. Instead, summon a Spark on the land on the left side, quickly Bind to it, then walk across the crates to place it inside the yellow box. This one requires two to open the way forward.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - Precious Treasure Quest Guide
The Precious Treasure quest in Echoes of Wisdom can be solved by bringing an item located nearby to the quest giver.
Enter the room on the right to fight the Smog boss once again – but this time, it's in a Sidescrolling environment instead of a top-down one, changing the strategies players can use to re-route the boss during its intermission phases.
Cotton Candy Quest Boss: Smog, Again!
Indeed, Smog returns once again in the Hidden Ruin, and just like before using potions or smoothies that grant Electricity Proof is a great idea for this fight. After the boss tells Zelda he couldn't resist a rematch, the fight will start as Smog clings to the environmental platforms and shoots lightning bolts her way.
For the first phase, enable Swordfighter Form with your Electricity Proof effect active and either slash at Smog's corporeal form or shoot arrows its way. After a few hits, it should transition to its intermission phase and split up into three smaller clouds, spread around the room.
Just like before, your goal is to re-route each cloud by placing Echoes in their way to make them collide. Each cloud will cling to the closest surface and move forward along it while shooting Zelda with lightning bolts. You cannot Bind to these clouds, you can only place things in the way to adjust their pathing.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - Great Fairy Location
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Great Fairy can be found relatively early into Zelda's journey in exile.
Eventually, each cloud will combine with others and form Smog again. Once the boss is fully back together, enable Swordfighter Form, take another Electricity Proof smoothie or potion, and deal damage until it goes into a second intermission.
This time, you need to recombine five separate clouds around the arena. Follow the same strategy and re-route each cloud to collide with the others to get to the final phase.
Smog will not split up again after doing this mechanic for the second time, so summon a strong Echo (like a Darknut lvl 3 Echo), enable Swordfighter Form, and slash away. Eventually, the boss will admit defeat for the second time.
Cotton Candy Hunt Quest Rewards
After defeating Smog for the second time, the boss will once again drop a bunch of Rupees and a Heart Piece reward, making this and its companion quest Let's Play A Game very worth going out of your way for as you get 2/4 Heart Pieces for a new Container.
Better yet, your reward for going back to the Scrub and telling them what happened is the Curious Relic accessory.
The Curious Relic accessory is one of the best Accessories in Echoes of Wisdom because it significantly reduces damage taken when equipped. It replaces the Ancient Relic in your inventory (the reward from Let's Play A Game), but its effect is so much stronger that you won't miss it.
