Even though Zack Snyder has been hard at work on his new Netflix film Rebel Moon, he still finds time to engage in fun interactions with fans on his preferred app of choice. One recent interaction, in particular, led to a deal with the promise of releasing a never before seen image from Rebel Moon.James Gunn, recently assigned DC Studio President, plans to reboot the DC franchise that Zack Snyder started with Man of Steel, which has led to turmoil between fans of Snyder's incomplete DC saga and cast, such as Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Henry Cavill’s Superman. Despite The Flash being an upcoming DC film that could bridge the gap between the DCEU that Snyder established and the rebooted DCU, seeing as how the Scarlet Speedster is a DC character whose powers deal with storytelling devices like the multiverse and time travel, leaks suggest that Superman and Wonder Woman were cut from The Flash. In all the confusion, excitement, and anger surrounding the shifting tides of DC Studios, Snyder quietly made a deal with a fan to release an image of Rebel Moon. Twitter user Amateur Watcher shared a screenshot of a private message with Snyder, in which they asked the director if he would share a never before seen image of Rebel Moon if their tweet about the film hit 500 retweets. Snyder agreed and released a Rebel Moon image with a caption stating, “as promised.” Snyder also apologized for the quality of the shot, expressing that it is still in early production.[EMBED_TWITTER]https://twitter.com/DiscussingFilm/status/1605591950261886978?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1605591950261886978%7Ctwgr%5E34255a2958a38120f9d7e135700f237267471ad3%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpublish.twitter.com%2F%3Fquery%3Dhttps3A2F2Ftwitter.com2FDiscussingFilm2Fstatus2F1605591950261886978widget%3DTweet[/EMBED_TWITTER]
Even though the image is unfinished, without color grading and final composition, one can appreciate the Star Wars-inspired atmosphere of isolation in a distant galaxy. This is enhanced by the feeling of hope and determination thanks to its lighting and architecture. Not much else can be inferred from the image alone other than a tease to its mystery, which includes an impressive cast and original story that may aid Rebel Moon's success on Netflix.
Snyder directed Rebel Moon and co-wrote its story, but he is also in charge of cinematography. As a result, Rebel Moon could be the most Snyder-esque film yet, and with the freedom brought on by Netflix, fans could be in for something spectacular. As far as what the future holds post Rebel Moon, Snyder may have teased a Henry Cavill collaboration, but with the actor removed from the Superman role, nothing is guaranteed.
Rebel Moon will release on Netflix in 2023.
