Zack Snyder's Justice League was the most Tweeted movie of 2021. The film was brought out due to the amount of fans that called for the proper release of the director's original vision of the film, which was hindered by the higher-ups at Warner Bros. And DC.
Justice League is a live-action DC comic book film that saw many different superhero characters in the DCEU come together. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg united in Justice League, but their teaming up was controversial.
Whedon took over as director of Justice League after the unfortunate passing of Snyder's child. The film that Whedon put out was met with major criticism and caused fans to call for Snyder to get his version of Justice League released, which ultimately led to Snyder's cut being released on HBO Max. Due to the fan push and vocalization, Justice League became the most-tweeted movie of 2021. Thanks to new Twitter analytical data, fans found out what the top talked-about movies of the year were. The list is as follows: 10) The Batman, 9) Shrek, 8) Godzilla vs. Kong, 7) Dune, 6) The Suicide Squad, 5) Black Widow, 4) Black Panther, 3) Eternals, 2) Spider-Man: No Way Home, 1) Zack Snyder's Justice League.
What started out as a "Release The Snyder Cut" campaign became an actual movie release and birthed a new campaign to Restore the Snyderverse. The new movement calls on Warner Bros. To continue Snyder's multi-film story plan involving Superman and the rest of the Justice League taking on Darkseid. However, at this time it appears Warner Bros. Has no interest in continuing Snyder's story in the main DCEU films.
What's interesting is seeing Shrek make that list because there wasn't an official release this year for the property. Making the top 10 is a big deal considering the DC and Marvel films are both the main draw here. Black Panther was also talked about, but it's not hard to see why. The passing of Chadwick Boseman, the release of Marvel Studios' What If...?, the news stories behind the filming of Black Panther 2, and the movie itself being a very pivotal moment in cinema history all make it clear why the film made the list.
Hopefully this news shows Warner Bros. The value that Snyder and everybody involved in his version of the Justice League actually have. His storyboards showed a darker side of comic book cinema that both Marvel and DC's live-action films have yet to touch. DC has been doing better at not stepping on the toes of its directors, which is mainly why The Suicide Squad did very well.
