Netflix's You has always been a fascinating and wild ride about serial killer Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) and his belief that he can charm anyone he meets and solve any problems he causes. Once fans knew You season 5 would premiere in April 2025, they were excited to see how Joe's creepy tale would wrap up.
So far in You season 5, fans have watched Joe and Kate Lockwood's (Charlotte Richie) marriage hit a breaking point, and Joe's interest in Mooney's employee Bronte (Madeline Brewer) has increased. Now that the season is almost halfway over, what is Joe going to do about his desire to keep killing, and can he and Kate survive?
April Will Be A Sad Month On Netflix For Horror Fans
Netflix has a great catalog of horror movies that will appeal to every fan, but a few excellent movies are leaving in April.
What Happens In You Season 5 Episode 5?
You season 5, episode 5, "The Last Dance" opens with Joe and Bronte together as Kate and Joe continue to pretend that they can handle their current situation. Of course, viewers know that won't be impossible. Kate asks a Lockwood Corporation employee to look into Joe and then learns about Joe and Bronte's affair when she sees Bronte walking outside Mooney's bookstore. Kate talks to Teddy (Griffin Matthews) about what she's learned about Joe's past, including the fact that Marienne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle) disappeared. She wonders if there is more to the story of Love Quinn's (Victoria Pedretti) death, reminding fans of Joe's brutal murder of Love at the end of You season 3.
While fans hoped familiar faces like Ellie Alves (Jenna Ortega) would show up in You season 5, new characters like Bronte and the twins are compelling and different. When Bronte rejects Joe and he gets worried, her tough personality becomes even more intriguing. He runs into Maddie and says in a month, they'll say Raegan died after getting lost at sea in the Philippines. Maddie doesn't like this idea, but that's the least of Joe's problems when he sees a note from Bronte saying she left. Her number is out of service and she hasn't posted on social media. Joe freaks out, proving that he has to be in control of his life at all times and that he can't stand when people behave in ways that he doesn't agree with or didn't anticipate.
After finding a knife in their bed, Joe confronts Kate, who says she knows the truth about him. She says "I gave you my heart" and Joe replies, "You took it back when I showed you mine." Joe reminds both Kate and fans of You that she's not innocent and has killed people before, too, when he says:
"You've twisted the story to make me out to be the only villain."
Then, You season 5, episode 5 kicks into high gear when Kate says she's divorcing Joe and Joe gets an email from Clayton (Tom Francis), whom he contacted with a fake email address. While Kate could have become evil like Joe, she's clearly working against him now.
Joe shows he still has a knack for solving mysteries and putting pieces together when he breaks into Clayton's apartment, gets on his laptop, and tracks down Bronte at the Laurel Diner in Atlantic Beach. In a brief phone chat, Bronte says, "Please forget about me." Joe says they can be together and asks:
"What if it was you and only you?"
Joe finds Bronte at a house called The Sandbox, but she tasers him, and he passes out.
How Does You Season 5 Episode 5 End?
Fans wanted to see several past characters, but for now, the new characters are riveting enough to keep fans invested. At the end of You season 5, episode 5, Kate goes to Raegan's house and doesn't know that she's really talking to Maddie. When she thinks the twins are fighting, she breaks into the bathroom and Maddie confesses to killing Raegen. Maddie calls Joe a "lunatic" and says things are "better now" because he made her see that her twin mistreated her throughout their life. This is an important moment since it shows that Joe has charmed Maddie, even though she thinks that she can see through him.
Joe and Kate continue to watch their relationship crumble and they each handle it a different way. Joe and Bronte's relationship deepens as they dance together and Joe wonders if their relationship could be real. Kate tells Teddy that she asked Joe to kill Bob and they killed Rhys Montrose in You season 4. She says "I unleashed a monster" and didn't want to turn into her dad but realizes she married someone just like him. Teddy is alarmed at Kate's behavior and says, "Maybe you should lose everything." This haunting scene proves why You season 5 was as highly anticipated as other 2025 Netflix shows such as Wednesday season 2 and Stranger Things season 5.
Back at the cottage, Joe kills Clayton after a brutal fight, and Bronte's two friends show up and are filming it for social media. One friend says:
"Our friend Clayton is dead and Joe Goldberg f**king killed him."
You season 5 has its biggest twist when Joe thinks, did Bronte set him up and catfish him?
You season 5 is now streaming on Netflix.
