What Happens In You Season 5 Episode 2?
At the beginning of You season 5, episode 2, "Blood Will Be Blood," Joe celebrates his "resurrection" as he cleans Mooney's bookstore. Then, back at home, Kate tells Joe to burn his stories about murder, proving that he has to keep this part of his life secret from her. While Kate could be influenced by Joe, at this point, she doesn't like what he's doing. Back at Mooney's, Joe is becoming more interested in Bronte, who he calls "captivating" and who has been sleeping there because she can't afford an apartment. You season 5 seems to be setting up Bronte as Joe's other love interest, and it will be interesting to see what happens there.
There are two main storylines in You season 5, episode 2. The first is Joe and Kate learning that Henry has been suspended for hitting Raegan's daughter, which creates more problems between them and Raegan. The second is Joe figuring out how to feel about Bronte. Kate throws a chaotic dinner party where Raegan, who has also invited Maddie, requests an apology from Kate and Joe. At the same time, Bronte sneaks into Mooney's basement and finds the cage. Joe creates a cage no matter where he is, including in the basement of the bakery A Fresh Tart in the excellent You season 3, but the Mooney's cage is the original one. Bronte gets locked in Joe's cage, and viewers can't help but wonder if she will end up there again later in the season. The You season 5 teaser showed Joe in the cage, too, but it's early in the season and unclear how he gets there.
After Raegan says she knows Kate killed Bob, Henry throws a knife at Raegan, which worries Kate and Joe. Neither one wants Henry to have Joe's violent instincts. The main problem in Joe and Kate's relationship comes to the forefront when Kate asks:
"You want us to kill everyone who is suspicious of us for the rest of our lives? When does it end?"
Joe now has two problems to solve. He gets an alert on his phone and finds Bronte in his cage. She says she wanted to sell one of the rare books to pay off debt and produce her play, and he fires her. This storyline gets revolved compellingly when Joe realizes that Bronte understands him more than Kate does. He rehires Bronte and tells her to stay in the apartment above Mooney's.
Then, Joe goes to Kate's office and sees Raegan and her husband Harrison (Pete Ploszek), and Joe locks Raegan in his cage. While some horror villains are kept hidden for the entire movie, Joe's schemes and plans are always shown to viewers, and it's always terrifying. Joe says:
"It's been a while since you put a monster in a cage."
How Does You Season 5 Episode 2 End?
You season 5 episode 2 ends with Joe realizing he needs to keep his dark inner nature from Kate. She tells him that while he was right that Raegan is creating problems for them, killing Bob (Michael Dempsey) was "a moment of weakness" and they can't do that again. It's clear that Kate is scared of Joe and that she isn't sure who she married. Joe thinks that he will kill Raegan and hide it from Kate. This is a memorable and significant scene since it's clear that Joe and Kate's marriage is in trouble. Fans were curious about Joe and Kate's You season 5 dynamic ever since they moved to New York City in the You season 4 finale, and it's clear that things are getting messier between them. Fans can guess that Joe will keep killing and Kate will find out at some point this season and be shocked and terrified.
The episode also concludes with the kind of big twist that fans of You expect from the show. Joe figures out that Maddie, not Raegan, is in the cage, and he says:
"You caged the wrong twin."
