YAPYAP does not have an official tutorial, so new players must do their best to learn the game and fulfill their quotas. There is a lot of information to take in, from memorizing wand spells to learning methods of creating chaos and avoiding monsters.
To make things a little easier, we've created a list of tips and tricks to help YAPYAP newcomers create chaos comfortably and stick around, as even veterans might learn something new. These YAPYAP tips and tricks will help new players and their friends get out of their first quota with plenty of money.
How to Get Every Wand in YAPYAP
In need of a fancy new wand with powerful spells in YapYap? Check out this guide to discover how you can get them all.
Take Two Wands of Winds During the First Quota
A Backup Wand is Never a Bad Idea
The Wand of Winds is the first wand players receive in YAPYAP. Since there are so many available at the start, it is reasonable for single players or those in small groups to have access to multiple during the first quota.
This tip is particularly useful for solo players, as having two wands makes spell cooldowns much less worrisome, as you can dual-wield or hotswap between them.
These two wands should either be dual-wielded or next to each other in your right-hand slots to make it easy to swap back and forth.
Wands Can Be Dual-Wielded
Become the Ultimate Wizard With a Mastery of the Left Hand and Right Hand
Players carrying two wands can hold one in each hand. When two wands are carried at once, viewing your spell list shows you the spells available for each wand. This allows players to cast multiple types of spells much faster than if they placed all their wands in their right-hand slots.
While dual-wielding the same wand, there may be some issues casting the same spells. If so, swap the wand in your right hand to your left if you want to cast the same spell in quick succession.
Have One Player Carry a Lightsource
Navigate the Dark in Co-Op, Or With Your Trusty Off-Hand
Light sources, like torches and candles, are extremely helpful for navigating dark corridors and seeing destructible items. When playing solo, it is helpful to hold a light source in your left hand while casting spells with your right. Multiplayer groups will have better luck having only part of their group carry torches.
Candles can be found freely in most rooms, but they will burn out. In contrast, torches are found more rarely and will always burn.
The Lux Ana spell is a good replacement for holding physical sources of light.
Gather All the Gold Available in the Lobby
Grab Over 60 Gold Coins for Free to Access More Wands and Shop Items
The lobby is home to a few single-use sources of gold that players should be sure to gather each run. At the start of a new game, players can grab 11 gold coins on the staircase in the house.
After completing the first quota and unlocking the basement, players can grab over 50 gold coins scattered throughout the basement. These coins will give you enough to get a new wand or two when combined with the money you earned from fulfilling the quota.
Pay Attention to Your Contracts
Contracts Aid in Extra Chaos
YAPYAP's contract board is a handy way to get extra chaos for things you may already be doing. Always check the contract board before you leave the lobby. Each contract will last until the quota ends, and potentially offer you several hundred chaos for specific chaos-causing actions.
While walking around, you can summon a scroll containing your current contracts by pressing the G key. It will name the contracts, show how much of each action you need to do, and how many you've already done.
If You See a Contract in an Enemy Tower, Pick It Up
A Secret Fourth Contract Can Reward More Than Just Chaos
These extra contracts can be found floating above the ground in an enemy tower. They will unlock a fourth task worth plenty of extra chaos, so it's always worth picking them up.
Make sure to pay special attention to the contract about clogging sinks and toilets. Completing this task will lead you to the Wand of Destruction, which is both fun and super helpful for destroying furniture. It can also be used to hit enemies.
Check Shelves and Drawers for Items
Don't Forget to Loot for Potions and Gold
While exploring around and causing mayhem, make sure to open drawers and check all the shelves you see. There is a chance for potion ingredients and gold to spawn in these hidden spaces.
Burn Furniture, Books, and Tapestries for Extra Chaos
Arson is a Wizard's Best Friend
Some items, like couches, books, and tapestries, don't break the same way others do. A handy way to deal with this is to set them on fire. Take one of the tall candelabras in the room and hit the furniture with the lit end. It should catch fire very quickly if it can be burned, and that results in easy chaos.
Use the Piss Yuk Spell for Many Small Chaos Actions
Piss Yuk is one of the YAPYAP spells that appear constantly in contracts. Typically, this comes from filling containers with it and using it on monsters. The extra chaos rewarded by fulfilling these contracts can make or break your quotas, so it's wise to hold onto a Grotesque Wand just in case.
In addition to the contracts, the spell itself causes plenty of actions worth small amounts of chaos. Using it on furniture and tapestries provides a little chaos before you smash them. The same goes for filling pots with it, which can then be thrown to the ground for more chaos.
The Piss Yuk spell can also be used to explode the gelatinous green cubes. All you have to do is hold the spell on them until they explode.
Turn Scary Enemies into Fish, Then Run Away or Toss Them Away
Kill Enemies Through Fish Yuk's Transformation
The Grotesque Wand has its fair share of uses, but one of the most helpful spells on it is the Fish Yuk spell. The spell turns its target into a flopping fish for a short duration. This is particularly helpful as players encounter larger, more dangerous enemies further into their YAPYAP runs.
Quick players will have the opportunity to turn an enemy into a fish and throw them off the map. It can also be used to throw enemies onto a lower level or to give players enough time to escape.
Hide from Monsters
A Wizard Can Run and Fight, But Sometimes It's Smart to Hide
When running away isn't an option, players may be able to hide in certain pieces of furniture until the monsters leave the area. Furniture that players can hide within will have an "E" followed by the word "hide" in front of it when viewed.
Use Crystals to Get Around
Crystals Can Be Used to Warp to a Designated Area
Players will occasionally find crystals on balconies in an enemy wizard's castle. When these crystals are approached, they will tell the player where they lead: typically, they'll list a direction or even the extraction point. Interact with the crystal to begin warping to its designated area.
These crystals help players warp closer to extraction or away from enemies. However, players will need to be cautious as it is very easy to get lost after warping. Make sure to keep an eye on your surroundings, especially the extraction point.
Always Check Your Wands at the Grimoire
Check For Hidden Spells When You Get a New Wand
Approaching and interacting with the Grimoire while holding a wand will reveal its page in the book. This is where players can find the wand's hidden spells. Every wand should be brought here after being unlocked.
Some spells are not listed in either the wand's list or the Grimoire, so be sure to try out new word combinations while playing the game!
End Quotas Early by Going to Bed
Accomplish Your Mission Early to Sleep the Night Away
If you've already hit your quota and still have a night or two left, you can choose to skip them. All you have to do is enter the lobby's home, go downstairs, and interact with the bed. This will take you to the space where you turn in your quota.
If the words on the bed are red, you don't have enough chaos to fulfill the quota.
