Yaoling: Mythical Journey is a game that will have players setting off on a fantastical journey with many objectives in hand. From collecting new villagers, developing the village, besting some of the best Yaoling Keepers, and adding a vast number of Yaolings to their collection. However, every player’s journey will start with making a very important choice — who will they pick as their starter.
The game provides players with 3 choices, much like the iconic Pokemon franchise. Each of the choices provided come with pros and cons, so making the right choice will have a massive effect on how players make it through the earlier parts of the game.
What Are The Starters In Yaoling: Mythical Journey?
The players will need to make their choice between the following three Yaolings, Bungo, Meep, and Flenny. Each with a different typing and ability to make use of in battles.
|
Yaoling Name |
Typing |
Ability |
Description |
|---|---|---|---|
|
Bungo |
Sharp |
Deft Strike |
Bungo is the first of two potential frontliners. Battles in Yaolings will play out in real time, so having a solid team composition and starting formation will be vital for success. Bungo will charge straight up to its opponents and deliver devastating damage, while also acting as a barrier between its foes and its teammates. Its Deft Strike allows it to deal out an AoE attack for high damage. |
|
Meep |
Frost |
Dark Tides |
Meep is the other option for a frontliner, but it will not be dealing out the same damage numbers as Bungo. However, it can hold its ground as the tankier of the two options. It's Dark Tides will pull all of its opponents together and deal frost elemental damage to them. |
|
Flenny |
Pierce |
Fire Blossom |
While the above two options are frontliners, Flenny acts as a ranged attacker when the player has other Yaolings to do the tanking. Players that choose Flenny will enjoy just how fast it is able to dispatch targets. Its Fire Blossom will fire off a very high-damaged fireball that can wipe a group of enemies clear off the battlefield. |
Which Starter To Choose In Yaoling: Mythical Journey
A major element of the game is that you will send up to 7 Yaolings out at the same time, meaning party composition is vital to success and progression. After choosing your starter Yaoling, you will have your first taste of combat against a Bunbow. After catching this Bunbow, you will discover you have another 2 Yaolings ready to be added to your party. This means you will start with a tanky frontliner, a ranged damage dealer, and a Yaoling that can heal your Yaoling party.
As you leave the village, you will start to discover the different kinds of Yaolings. Some of the first options you discover will all be ranged attackers. Laventots will be just outside the village, with more Bunbows to the south. Players will also encounter stronger Elite versions of Yaolings, allowing for 5 mighty long-range attackers that should hunker down behind 2 solid frontliners — knocking Flenny from the running of which starter to pick.
Bungo’s biggest flaw is how fast they will go down in battle. Clearing enemies can lead to success, but there will be a lot of close calls if you rely on them as a frontliner. Meep on the other hand, is just as tanky as Bax, and this is what cements Meep as the best choice of starter.
Without a solid frontline, you will fail in battle, and there are some strong challenges that lie to the south and the east of the starting area. Meep will not only tank, but corral enemies while your long-ranged army bombards from a safe distance. Even when some enemies teleport and get on the other side of your forces, there are much fewer close calls than if you choose Flenny or Bungo.
