Summary

  • Yakuza/Like a Dragon developer to drop major news on September 20.
  • The next Yakuza game is expected to be revealed on that day.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the developer of Yakuza/Like a Dragon, will reveal some major news on September 20. The Yakuza series is well known for its shifts between a serious crime drama and a lighthearted, over-the-top comedy in its side quests. In between the dark mainline story of each game comes plenty of side content packed with things like RC cars, petty scams, and cabaret clubs.

On July 17, it was announced that news for the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series would be dropped during the Tokyo Game Show between September 26 and September 29. The developer’s presentation will presumably take place during the September 26 TGS livestream from 10 am to 10:50 am ET.

Six days before the 2024 edition of the Tokyo Game Show, Ryu Ga Gotoku will release news about its next game. The announcement will be on a livestream at 3am PT / 6am ET / 11am UK on September 20. The event is set to confirm the next Yakuza/Like a Dragon game from the Japanese studio. It is not known if the game being revealed is a mainline title for Yakuza/Like a Dragon, or perhaps if multiple titles will be shown.

September 20 Will Reveal the Next Yakuza Game

Some recent news has come for Yakuza fans who own a Nintendo Switch, as Yakuza Kiwami was revealed during a Nintendo Direct to be coming to the console. The port releases on October 24 and is a full remake of the original Yakuza game that was launched back in 2005. Yakuza Kiwami has been available for the Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC for some time. The Nintendo Switch version marks eight years since the first release of the title.

The Yakuza series is well known for shifting between its serious tone in the mainline story and a more casual and humorous tone during sidequests known as sidestories. A live-action Yakuza TV show from Amazon Prime is in the works. However, the show will focus on the main story beats and avoid any of the lighthearted sidestory source material. The show will be called Like a Dragon: Yakuza and will release in two batches on October 25 and November 1, 2024, for fans to binge.
