Crossplay is a gaming feature that's become popular in recent years, especially with live-service games like Ubisoft's XDefiant. With crossplay enabled, it allows people to matchmake with other players that may be on a different platform. This means that if you're playing XDefiant on PC with crossplay toggled on, you can get matched up with other PC gamers, as well as Xbox Series X/S and PS5 players.
If you've started XDefiant and want to know how to turn off crossplay (or turn it on), this guide will come in handy.
How to Turn On/Off Crossplay in XDefiant
Where to Go
To get right to it, if you're playing XDefiant on PC via Ubisoft's launcher or on PS5, you can find the crossplay settings by following these steps:
- From the main home page of XDefiant, click on Settings in the top-right corner of the screen. If you're using a keyboard, it should be the F3 key. If you're using a controller, the corresponding button will appear in the corner.
- Scroll down to the Matchmaking and Account tab.
- Two settings will be found here: Crossplay and Input-Based Matchmaking.
- You can toggle crossplay on and off. If you choose to leave it off, this could actually help increase the matchmaking speeds and server latency, overall providing players with a better experience competing online.
- If you want to change the Input-Based Matchmaking option, you can do that here as well.
Input-Based Matchmaking makes it so that you can set it up so that you only play with other people who share the same input as you. So, other controller users will appear if you're using a controller. If you leave it off, you'll get matched up with all players, regardless of how they're playing. Crossplay needs to be enabled in order to turn Input-Based Matchmaking on. It's also worth noting that it does not apply to Ranked games and mixed-input Party matchmaking.
How to Enable and Disable Crossplay on Xbox
For Xbox users, the crossplay option might not appear in the menu for XDefiant. You'll need to head to the console's user preferences instead.
There's more concrete information directly on Xbox's support page, but to get to the setting, follow these easy steps:
- Hit the Xbox button on your controller.
- Go to Profile and System > Settings > Account
- Hit Privacy > Xbox Privacy > View Details and Customize > Communication and Multiplayer.
- Look for the 'you can join cross-network play' option. Choose to allow or block. This is the same thing as crossplay.
