The recent Xbox Series S reveal has quickly become the biggest news of the day, with the trailer jumping to #2 trending on YouTube at the time of this writing. However, hidden among the new specs and price point of the upcoming Next-Gen console may have been a slight reveal that could hint at details for the Beyond Light expansion coming to Destiny 2 this November.

Fans were quick to point out a small detail in the Destiny 2 segment of the Xbox Series S reveal trailer, quickly posting their findings to Reddit and speculating on what it could mean. Reddit user u/Nyxara was one of the first to notice that the short clip within the trailer might give an idea of what Beyond Light's leveling system might include and how it might be changing Destiny 2's current formula.

In the short segment of Destiny 2: Beyond Light gameplay, a player is seen dashing across the screen with their character's level showing next to their name, as has been standard affair for much of Destiny's lifetime. What fans and players have found to be strange about the quick shot of the player is that the level is shown to be 31, which doesn't exactly coincide with how levels have worked for the last few seasons of Destiny 2. Instead of showing a light level upwards in the hundreds, all the way up to 1360, the level more resembles either the original Destiny's leveling system at launch, or the way that the early game treats the first few experience based levels before light levels come into play.

Theories have begun to be pieced together about what this new level system means, such as Reddit user u/IronGemini who submits thoughts that light levels might be getting reduced by a specific amount and the display is abbreviated. However, it's much more likely that the 31 shown next to the players name is an experience based level, and the max level from that end will be raising as Destiny 2: Beyond Light releases. That being said, without any confirmation from Bungie at the time of this writing, there is no way to know exactly what this new level might mean, as the clip could likely be from an earlier build or internal build of the expansion.

It's likely that Bungie will be ready to highlight new info for the upcoming expansion, similar to how the developer recently detailed the Stasis subclasses in Beyond Light. For now, all fans have is speculation, but considering how ready Microsoft was to show off some never-before-seen footage of Destiny 2, Bungie could be planning to give a larger look at that in the future.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
