The Xbox Series S Lockhart console could be announced next month, suggests a new report. There have been rumors that there will be two, next-generation Xbox consoles for some time though only the Xbox Series X has been revealed.

A new report says that Microsoft is preparing to announce the Xbox Series S Lockhart very soon and that it has been created as an "entry-point" to next-generation gaming. The console will replace the Xbox One X and will be more affordable. The report also reveals that Xbox employees are now taking the Xbox Series S Lockhart home for testing and this supports rumors that there will be a major Xbox reveal event in May.

This new rumor about the Xbox Series X Lockhart goes against a rumor from last June that suggested that Microsoft had shelved its Xbox Lockhart plans. A lot can change in 10 months and that original rumor may not have been accurate, but it does mean that there are now two conflicting stories about Microsoft's next-gen consoles.

However, there is more evidence supporting the idea of Xbox Series S Lockhart than there is going against it and some of that comes from Microsoft itself. When talking about Xbox All Access, which will make the Xbox Series X more affordable, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said "consoles," plural and not singular, which does suggest that two next-gen Xbox consoles are being planned. The very decision to offer a console payment plan also confirms that Microsoft is thinking more about how gamers spend and this could be the reason why it's planning Xbox Series S Lockhart.

It's also believable that the Xbox Series S Lockhart is being given to employees for testing. Xbox employees have been testing the Xbox Series X for a while now, allowing them to use features like Xbox Series X Quick Resume. It's possible that Xbox Lockhart, which is also rumored to be less powerful than the Xbox Series X, would need shorter testing time.

If Xbox Series S Lockhart is being planned, then gamers will have some big questions for the Xbox team to answer before release. Fans will want to know how good Xbox Series X games will look on the more affordable console and if some Xbox Series X features won't be available to them. The console may be cheaper but if the Xbox team can't provide good answers to these, its next-gen plan may not be a success.
