Summary

  • Another multi-platform port of a "big" Xbox game will reportedly be announced next week.
  • The stated time frame overlaps with Gamescom 2024, which Xbox has already confirmed to be attending.

A well-known leaker has suggested that another major Xbox console exclusive will be making the jump to PlayStation soon. According to their information, the next Xbox game to go multi-platform might be revealed at Gamescom 2024.

Microsoft originally announced its multi-platform publishing push in mid-February 2024. Over the next few months, the company brought a handful of its games to the Switch, PlayStation consoles, or both, depending on the exact title.

New Xbox Multi-Platform Game Reportedly Getting Announced Next Week

The next wave of Xbox games might be just around the corner, according to serial leaker Shinobi602. During an August 14 discussion on the ResetEra Forum boards, the insider said that at least one "big" Xbox game will have its multi-platform port announcement "next week." That time frame overlaps with the 2024 edition of Gamescom, making the German convention a likely venue for the purported announcement. Xbox has already confirmed it will attend Gamescom 2024 with over 50 games, so it could very well end up sharing some news at the event as well.

While As Dusk Falls wasn't developed by Microsoft, it's included in the above list on account of originally being published by Xbox Game Studios as an Xbox console exclusive.

Shinobi602 didn't hint at the identity of the mysterious game whose multi-platform port announcement is supposedly happening next week. Leaker eXtas1s subsequently took to Twitter to suggest the title in question could be Forza Horizon 5, having done so via a GIF depicting a rough map of Mexico along with a message saying "happy Cinco de Mayo" in Spanish. For clarity, FH5 takes place in Mexico. But this cryptic tweet is possibly a guess rather than a leak.

Shinobi602 said they are uncertain whether Microsoft plans to announce more than one multi-platform port during the third week of August 2024. Regardless, their information tracks with a number of recent reports suggesting more Xbox games will be going multi-platform soon. Microsoft itself has already implied it's far from done bringing its console exclusives to rival platforms, with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer previously explaining that porting decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. The company's original announcement of its multi-platform foray saw Spencer claim that only games that have maximized their audiences on Xbox consoles and PC will be considered for ports.

While Forza Horizon 5 does fit that profile, Playground Games' racing series is currently one of Microsoft's biggest video game franchises. The notion of it coming to rival platforms is hence comparable to something like Halo or Gears of War making the jump to PlayStation. Whether Microsoft's multi-platform publishing foray is already at the stage where that is a realistic possibility is unclear, but not completely implausible, especially in light of one June 2024 report suggesting that multi-platform ports of six more Xbox console exclusives are currently in the works.

The Sony PlayStation 5's slim console upgrade offers the same functionality as the launch unit but throws in increased storage (1TB), an additional front USB-C port, and a much more compact frame, making for an ideal console purchase for users still on the fence.

Priced $50 more than its digital edition, the disc edition already trades at a $50 discount over MSRP and comes with a Dualsense controller, an HDMI 2.1 cable, an AC power cable, and documentation as part of the package, making for a complete package for gamers looking to hook one up to a monitor or TV out of the box.
