Day-one Xbox Game Pass title Planet of Lana 2: Children of the Leaf will launch on March 5, 2026, Thunderful Group has announced. Ahead of its Xbox Game Pass launch, the upcoming adventure will even receive a demo.

The second title from Swedish studio Wishfully, Planet of Lana 2 is a side-scrolling puzzle adventure featuring hand-painted visuals and following Lana and her creature companion, Mui, as they traverse a planet that blends natural environments with advanced technology. The game was announced in June 2025, with Wishfully confirming it would launch day one on Xbox Game Pass, as did the studio’s debut title. At the time, the Sweden-based developer only committed to a vague 2026 launch window for its upcoming title.

Planet of Lana 2 Release Date Announced with New Trailer

Some eight months after its original announcement, Planet of Lana 2 has received a concrete release date: March 5. The date was revealed via a new gameplay trailer that offers another extensive look at the upcoming puzzle platformer. After outlining the game’s story, which focuses on Lana’s efforts to help her divided planet, the trailer highlights a range of settings, including forests, snowy areas, swamp environments, a running-train level, and even one shanty town.

Planet of Lana launched in 2023 to largely positive reviews, as reflected in its average score of 81 and 80% recommendation rate on OpenCritic. Critics highlighted its art direction, atmosphere, and soundtrack, while opinions on its platforming were more mixed, with some reviewers describing it as overly simple. Planet of Lana 2 aims to build on this aspect by placing greater emphasis on player mobility and gameplay variety. Developer Wishfully has said the sequel features an "older, more agile" version of Lana, with smoother movement and additional abilities such as wall jumping. On that note, today's release date trailer indicates improvements to her standard jump as well, which now appears to be longer.

Like the first entry, Planet of Lana 2: Children of the Leaf is designed as a story-driven experience presented without spoken dialogue. While characters do communicate, their speech consists of Simlish-style gibberish rather than intelligible language. This creative constraint has long been used by developers and filmmakers to deliver universally accessible stories, with the lack of intelligible dialogue removing the need for subtitles and localization. When used effectively, a dialogue-free story is intuitively understandable, allowing other aspects of the medium—namely visuals and music—to shine. The first Planet of Lana was widely praised as an example of dialogue-free narratives done right.

With Planet of Lana 2, Xbox Game Pass now has three confirmed titles for March 2026. Sad Cat Studios' action platformer Replaced was previously announced as arriving on March 12, followed by city builder Nova Roma on March 26. All three titles are day-one releases. Nova Roma was initially planned to launch in early access on January 22, but ended up being pushed back to late March because its developer, Lion Shield, wanted to polish the game a bit further, having said as much in a prepared statement.
