Summary

  • Kung fu brawler Sifu was added to Xbox Game Pass on October 2.
  • Today's catalog rotation also saw Open Roads and MLB The Show 24 join the Standard tier of Microsoft's subscription service.
  • Three more titles have already been confirmed to be coming to Xbox Game Pass later this month.

Sifu has joined the ever-growing Xbox Game Pass content library. The hit brawler marks the first new Xbox Game Pass addition in October 2024.

Developed by French studio Sloclap, Sifu is a single-player martial arts fighting game that was originally released for the PS4, PS5, and PC in February 2022 before making its way to the Switch and the latest two Xbox console generations in November 2022 and March 2023, respectively. Many critics praised Sifu for its roguelite structure, detailed animations, and brutally rewarding combat, among other qualities. The game presently boasts over 11,700 "Very Positive" Steam user reviews and a "Strong" rating on OpenCritic, derived from an aggregate score of 81 and an 85% reviewer recommendation rate. It is hence one of the highest-rated single-player action games in recent years.

Sifu Joins Xbox Game Pass Standard Library With 2 Other Titles

18 months following its debut on Microsoft's consoles, Sloclap's popular title was added to Xbox Game Pass on October 2. Since it's not a day-one release, Sifu is available across all non-Core tiers of Xbox Game Pass: PC, Standard, and Ultimate. And while the kung fu brawler is the first new title to reach the subscription service since the turn of the month, Microsoft's October 2 catalog update also includes MLB The Show 24 and Open Roads, both of which have now joined the Xbox Game Pass Standard library.

Open Roads and MLB The Show 24 were first added to Xbox Game Pass in March 2024, but ended up having their availability limited after Microsoft revamped its subscription tiers over the summer, introducing the XGP Standard membership that doesn't include access to day-one releases. Although Xbox Game Pass for Console users who kept their subscriptions since then were grandfathered into the old plan, new XGP Standard members weren't able to play MLB The Show 24 and Open Roads until today.

Moving forward, day-one releases might take at least six months to join the Xbox Game Pass Standard catalog. But none of them will adhere to a singular rollout timeline, with Microsoft saying that the gap between Ultimate- and Standard-tier releases will vary on a case-by-case basis.

As for what's next for the subscription service, Xbox Game Pass is also adding party game Mad Streets on October 7. The Craftshop Arts-developed title will be followed by deck-building roguelike Inscryption and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on October 10 and October 25, respectively. In between this pair of releases, Xbox Game Pass will lose five titles on October 15: Dyson Sphere Program, Everspace 2, F1 Manager 2023, From Space, and Scorn.
