Xbox Game Pass subscribers have been looking forward to this week for some time, as Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming to Xbox One soon. Microsoft surprised Game Pass subscribers Wednesday morning with several more announcements, though. May 2020 is starting off fast for Xbox Game Pass, with four games coming to Xbox Game Pass on Xbox One and three games coming to Xbox Game Pass on PC. Red Dead Redemption 2 is just the start of this month's free games.
On Xbox One, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the big addition of the month. It arrives for subscribers to download on May 7. Three other games are also arriving in May, spread from May 7 through May 19. First is DayZ, the zombie apocalypse survival game, which also launches on May 7. Following that, the classic PlayStation JRPG Final Fantasy 9 arrives on May 14. Then on May 19, Fractured Minds, the short first-person immersive game made by 17-year-old Emily Mitchell, comes to Xbox One.
On PC, Game Pass subscribers won't be getting Red Dead Redemption 2. But they'll still be getting an assortment of great games. The biggest addition is Halo 2, joining Game Pass as part of the PC version of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection. PC users will also be getting Final Fantasy 9, just like the Xbox One version of the service. The third and final game confirmed for Game Pass on PC is Endless Legend, a 4x turn-based fantasy game that many consider one of the best.
Unfortunately, while Microsoft has provided dates for its Game Pass releases on Xbox One, no dates have been provided for the new PC Game Pass titles. This isn't atypical, however. Microsoft releases its Game Pass PC titles as it's able with relatively short notice.
There may also be more games on the way in May 2020 for Xbox Game Pass for both platforms. Microsoft tends to announce Game Pass releases in two-week windows, so more games after May 19 are likely planned. Expect more information on those closer to the back half of the month.
With new Xbox Game Pass releases come games leaving the service in turn. To put it frankly, a lot of solid games are leaving Xbox Game Pass in May. Leaving Xbox Game Pass on Xbox One are Grand Theft Auto 5, Black Desert, Doom, Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game, Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, Metal Gear Survive, The Banner Saga, and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. Leaving Game Pass on PC are Imperator: Rome, Rise of the Tomb Raider, The Banner Saga, West of Loathing, and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. Try and play as much of each game before they go, with all games being removed by May 15.
Stay tuned for more Xbox Game Pass news in the weeks to come.
