Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is adding Madden NFL 24 to its content catalog on February 8. This is the fourth addition to Microsoft's subscription offering since the turn of the month, and the first sports title to reach Xbox Game Pass Ultimate since F1 23 debuted on the platform in mid-January.
The latest installment in EA's Madden series was released for PC and consoles in mid-August. While it wasn't treated to a same-day release on Microsoft's subscription service, there was a brief window of opportunity for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members to play Madden NFL 24 free of charge back in September.
Xbox Game Pass Adds Zelda-Like RPG With 'Very Positive' Reviews
The latest Xbox Game Pass update introduces a new game with 'Very Positive' Steam reviews that appears to be inspired by classic Zelda titles.
That offer is now set to return indefinitely, as Madden NFL 24 will soon be joining the February wave of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate releases. Although EA Sports' AAA title has yet to appear in the XGP library as of 4am ET, Microsoft's subscribers eager to start playing it can jump into its 10-hour free trial that's also available via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, as the progress from the demo carries over to the full version of the football sim. The trial itself is planned to be pulled from Xbox Game Pass as soon as Madden NFL 24 gets added to its Ultimate-tier content library.

While the addition of Madden NFL 24 to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate might lower the appeal of its predecessor, the previous entry in the franchise won't necessarily be leaving Microsoft's subscription service anytime soon. That's suggested by the fact that all of the recent installments in the franchise have enjoyed prolonged Xbox Game Pass Ultimate stints, ranging from 18 months to two years. In fact, both Madden NFL 23 and 22 are still available on the service as of February 2024. Given that state of affairs, the imminent arrival of the latest franchise entry might only result in an immediate removal of Madden NFL 22 from Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, while the 2023 installment will remain available for the time being.
Madden NFL 24 has yet to be added to XGP Ultimate as of 4am ET on February 8. In the meantime, Microsoft's subscribers can jump into its 10-hour trial that's also available via XGP Ultimate and supports save data transfer to the full version of the game.
Some football fans are likely to welcome the continued availability of last year's game, which is still held in higher regard. In contrast, Madden NFL 24 has been flooded with negative reviews following its release, with many players taking aim at its monetization practices and polish, or lack thereof.
Moving forward, at least five more titles will be added to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library before the end of the month. The first of that lot is Capcom's Resident Evil 3 remake, which is scheduled to reach the service on February 13.
