Lies of P and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, two Soulslike games headlining Xbox Game Pass in 2023, are coming together for a mysterious new collaboration. Lies of P has recently received a release date of September 19 at Summer Game Fest, and has thus become one of the most highly anticipated Xbox Game Pass titles for the remainder of this already massive gaming year.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty released on Xbox Game Pass in March to generally positive reviews. From Team Ninja, the legendary Japanese studio behind franchises like Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, and more recently Nioh, Wo Long is a challenging action Soulslike title that had many players feeling the heat at its very first boss. With the full game having been out for months, Team Ninja has another surprise up its sleeve for later in the year.

With Wo Long out the door and the Pinocchio-inspired Lies of P on the way in a few more months, the Wo Long Twitter account announced a strange, yet interesting collaboration between the two Soulslike games. While potentially exciting news for many fans of Wo Long and those excited for Lies of P, no further details about the striking collaboration have been revealed, nor a timetable for when fans can expect them.

It's odd that an announcement of this sort has been made with one of the games having yet to be released. More often than not, a collaboration such as this unfolds between two games that are already widely available. While both of these titles are Soulslikes, they can't be any more different in terms of setting and style. Lies of P, which takes heavy inspiration from FromSoftware's Lovecraftian horror Bloodborne, is set in a dreary, mechanical 1800s Paris-inspired city. Meanwhile, Wo Long takes place in China during the Han dynasty and has a gameplay style more akin FromSoftware's other hit Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

With that said, it's difficult to imagine what exactly this collaboration would entail. Since both of these games are single player experiences, something like a limited-time mode or event seems unlikely, though not impossible. Perhaps a simple cosmetic costume swap is in the cards, since both games already make room for players to express themselves with different outfits and such, but that's just speculation at this time. With Lies of P set for a September release, fans likely won't have to wait too much longer to learn more about this strange, yet interesting Soulslike collaboration.
