Customers in the US will soon be paying more for a new Xbox console, as the ongoing tariff situation between the US and China is to blame for an imminent price increase. Microsoft stated that the price of all Xbox Series X and Series S consoles sold in the US will go into effect on October 3, with the Xbox Series S 512GB starting at $399 rather than the current $379.

The imminent price change is largely due to the ongoing tariff situation between the US and China. A controversial part of the Trump administration's economic policy, the tariffs imposed by the US government have affected the gaming industry across the globe. While some companies have shifted or diversified their manufacturing processes to countries like Vietnam and India, others have increased prices in global markets to compensate. In light of the Trump administration's decisions, both Sony and Nintendo have subsequently increased their prices on the PlayStation 5 and the original Switch consoles, respectively.

Although Microsoft previously increased the prices on Xbox consoles in May 2025, the tech giant will again pass the costs to consumers ahead of the holidays. Microsoft confirmed via its support website that, beginning Friday, October 3, the MSRP of Xbox Series X/S consoles in the US will increase due to "changes in the macroeconomic environment." Microsoft said, "Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and providing value for Xbox players." The Xbox Series S 512GB and 1TB models will jump up by $20, to $399 and $449, respectively. The Xbox Series X digital and disc editions will see a $50 markup to $599.99 and $649.99. Finally, the Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition will jump from $729.99 to a staggering $799.99, a $70 jump.
