Xbox Cloud Gaming is reportedly set to allow users to play their owned Xbox games via cloud streaming, starting next month. This would drastically increase the number of games available for Xbox users to play on the go.

Officially launched in 2020, Xbox Cloud Gaming enables users to play supported games on any screen, without the need for a console or PC. The service, which is still in beta, is available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers in select regions around the world. So far, cloud streaming on Xbox has only been supported for certain games that are featured in the Game Pass catalog. However, this may change very soon as rumors suggest Xbox may start making titles from a user's library playable on its cloud gaming service.

Certain Xbox players will begin getting access to the games sitting in their library via Xbox Cloud Gaming as soon as next month, as per a report in The Verge. The console giant is set to "test" streaming owned games that currently aren't part of Xbox's Game Pass lineup. It will run these tests and enable thousands of games for cloud streaming, leveraging Microsoft's Project Lapland. The source reveals that the feature will first arrive for Xbox Insiders in November, ahead of being rolled out for more users in the future.

Xbox Cloud Gaming Users May Finally Get to Stream Their Xbox Library

Interestingly, this isn't the first time there has been news of Xbox Cloud Gaming users getting the ability to stream their library of owned games. Back in 2022, Xbox had stated its desire to unlock a player's owned games to be available for cloud streaming within that year, only to fall short of its target eventually. The recent rekindling of rumors surrounding this feature hints that plans may finally be in motion to let players access their existing game library on the constantly evolving Xbox Cloud Gaming service.

Cloud gaming is a front where Xbox has steadily been growing its footprint over the years. Earlier this year, in June, Xbox parent Microsoft partnered with Amazon to incorporate Xbox Cloud Gaming into select Fire TV devices. This move helped make games accessible to a whole new demographic by simply using a $50 Amazon Fire TV Stick. If the rumored addition of owned games on Xbox Cloud Gaming turns out to be true, it would mark another positive stride for the green brand with regard to its cloud gaming aspirations.
