A gamer recently found an unopened box of Armored Core: Verdict Day for the Xbox 360 in the garbage. The game is not a very popular entry in the Armored Core franchise, but an original, sealed box could fetch quite a high price on the market today, which makes this a considerably curious find.
Armored Core is a mecha franchise from FromSoftware that started out in the 90s, way before Dark Souls, and has over a dozen installments so far. The gameplay generally revolves around piloting mechas during dangerous missions to earn cash to modify the robot, getting more powerful as the player also gains more experience. While the franchise is a cult hit, though, some entries are far more loved than others. Armored Core 5 had pretty bad reviews, for instance, and its direct sequel Verdict Day did not fare so well, too.
Now, the gamer Yukf00 recently shared their latest discovery on social media: an unopened box of Armored Core: Verdict Day for the Xbox 360. According to the gamer, the box was found lying around in the garbage. Despite being thrown in the trash, the object was still in pretty good condition, and the game probably works, too, although it’s impossible to know while keeping it sealed.
In the comments, gamers told the poster that they were pretty lucky to find this game, as it could fetch a high market price. Windyandbreezy, for instance, claims to have bought the game for less than $5 at GameStop a few years ago, and they managed to sell it for $90 online. When looking at current prices on eBay, this allegation seems accurate. While used editions are not so ludicrously pricey and could be purchased for around $70, sealed versions of the game can be found for over $100 there, with one costing as much as $170. Verdict Day was far from becoming an Xbox 360 game that deserved a reboot, and it did not sell well. So, there are not many units around, and game collectors are paying a high price for this rare product.
Old-school Armored Core fans won’t need to keep paying high prices to replay old games for long, though. Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon now has a release date: August 25, 2023. The new title in the franchise will have fast-paced gameplay, but it definitely won’t feel like a Soulslike game, something that will probably keep traditional fans happy.
