The past couple of years have seen some fundamental changes to WWE booking, including an emphasis on long-term storytelling and character development. This is perhaps seen nowhere better than Roman Reigns and the Bloodline, Cody Rhodes' pursuit of his story, Drew's descent into "Hater of the Year," and quite a few other decisions. Because this newfound focus really came to the fore around the same time Triple H entered WWE Creative, "long-term storytelling" is often synonymous with him - even if it's not always perfect. A few decisions have been derided for stretching out a storyline, with Cody Rhodes losing to Reigns at WrestleMania 39 coming to mind or matches being too predictable at times, but it's often more successful than it isn't. Interestingly, WWE 2K24 utilizes a similar trick with its MyGM Mode.
That's not to say that WWE 2K24 stretches out its MyGM mode, but it makes a few key changes that make the long-term more impactful. Luckily, this is well done too. Like long-term storytelling in WWE has done from time to time, it could have blown back on the game. For the most part, however, many fans aren't even going to notice the extra investment and storytelling in MyGM because it feels like a natural evolution while retaining its management-level fun factor.

MyGM mode is a beloved staple of WWE games, and WWE 2K24 continues to iterate on WWE 2K23's and 2K22's take on the game mode. Notably, however, a few key changes ensure that players have to keep the future in mind when choosing their brands, their GMs, and their booking decisions.

Superstar Journey in WWE 2K24's MyGM Mode
It takes more seasons to enter the MyGM Hall of Fame than past games, though not by much. That time is filled with more interesting mechanics, however. WWE 2K24's Superstar Journey, for example, allows players to level up their superstars - giving them even more reason to keep a few top stars happy and to keep them at the end of the season. It means investing in a superstar, leveling them up from whatever level they start at. This means each draft is more expensive, requiring players and NPCs to look at more amateur talent, while they can also retain a few superstars.
Of course, this also means consistently keeping anyone players want to level up in the title scene, but it's like seeing someone truly rise through their brand as a top star. There's nothing more fun than taking a level 10 or lower character to level 25, moving them up the title scene and ensuring they become the face of the brand across a few seasons of WWE 2K24's MyGM Mode.
Long Term Booking and Storytelling Features
Show Logistics in WWE 2K24's MyGM Mode
Show Logistics and Scouting Talents also do more to extend the storytelling of MyGM Mode. Unlike WWE 2K23's MyGM Mode, where players had to pay to unlock higher-tiered show logistics (like arenas) and then pay that week to use them, WWE 2K24 adds more tiers but scales each unlock to a higher cost and use of obtained assets once. The first effect is that no PLE, much less something like WrestleMania, would be booked in a high school gym. The second is players have to manage their economy more so to unlock these for us down the road; the one exception is the special tier of PLE arenas for those. Otherwise, players have to save, while staying on top of the charts, to improve their show. This ensures that each brand in WWE 2K24's MyGM Mode feels like it is growing alongside the player, instead of randomly regressing and booking small venues at bad times.

Scouting Talents and Trading in WWE 2K24's MyGM Mode
Scouting Talents go hand-in-hand with these elements, too. Obtaining Talents, especially those of higher levels, means players have to really focus on their income. At the same time, it ensures players can't just randomly get whatever star they want. Players can scout so many talents each week, instead of snagging anyone they want. It requires more focus on what superstar styles are needed and how much players can invest. Not only does scouting cost resources and money, but so does signing anyone to a contract. This limitation forces creativity in the booking and also supplements the new trading feature in WWE 2K24's MyGM Mode.
After each PLE, players can trade with others. It's not always the best offers one way or another, but if someone's freshly trained, face-of-the-brand champion just defeated another superstar, players may want to trade them for someone else. Or obtain someone they do want for another feud and so forth. In short, all of these features go hand-in-hand to create more intensive booking decisions, while ensuring the mode is more long-term than before.
Overall, all of these elements influence the "long-term storytelling" found in MyGM Mode, and each season is further influenced by player decisions. Which brand and GM they use in WWE 2K24, their week-to-week booking, and how they engage rivals ensure that MYGM has a lot more to it, even if players don't realize how much more investment these features demand - improving the fun factor.
