This year’s WWE game breaks away from the typical simulation type game and resembles an older classic. WWE 2K Battlegrounds is a new, arcade-style video game that includes a popular Hall of Famer who reeks of awesomeness.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds has a similar style to a previous game, WWE All-Stars. This year's WWE 2K game has a much more cartoony style. The superstars can pull off some pretty insane moves, activate fire and lightning with their hands, and even get help from a goat according to the trailer.

Typically, WWE games have a Superstar as a pre-order bonus and this over-the-top brawler is no different. The Rated-R Superstar, Edge, will be available to anyone who pre-orders the game. If players opt for the Digital Deluxe version of WWE 2K Battlegrounds, Edge will be included with the bundle alongside extra costumes for Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and Ronda Rousey. The Digital Deluxe edition will also contain a currency pack of 1100 Golden Bucks, which are used to unlock additional Superstars and items.

Edge is a wildly popular wrestler with fans new and old so anyone picking up the game should be pleased with the pre-order bonus. In year’s past, the WWE games have had other DLC packs post-launch that add other Superstars to the game’s roster. Nothing has been announced yet but it wouldn’t be surprising if WWE 2K Battlegrounds follow that same formula. Currently, the roster features 70 Superstars to choose from including The Undertaker, Roman Reigns, John Cena, Shawn Michaels, and more. Although, one prominent Superstar missing from the latest trailer and cover of the game is Triple H. Which is a bit odd as he has always been great at shoehorning his way into everything.

For WWE fans, WWE 2K Battlegrounds is this year’s wrestling game. Earlier in the year, it was announced that the annualized WWE 2K series would be skipping 2020. While there was no reason given for this move, fans and players can assume that WWE 2K20’s poor performance and overall buggy experience is to blame. For more WWE games, fans can pre-order the upcoming card game, WWE Legends Royal Rumble, so players can prevent the debacle of the 1994 Royal Rumble and declaring Bret Hart the true winner.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds is available on September 18 for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
