Yinlin was supposed to be released three weeks after the official opening of Wuthering Waves server in version 1.0, but the developer decided to shorten the version from six weeks to five weeks, making it necessary to move Yinlin's debut to one week earlier so that players can have the three weeks to get her.

This awkward decision also means that both Yinlin and Jiyan banners in Wuthering Waves are featured together; although, of course, Jiyan's banner will end sooner than Yinlin's. You can compare the two units to know if pulling for Jiyan or Yinlin is worth it in Wuthering Waves. While both characters are DMG dealers, their gameplay and mechanics are very different. For that, it’s important to compare their builds, roles, and teams in Wuthering Waves.

Build

Since both units have different elements in Wuthering Waves, they use different sets of Echoes. Building Jiyan with 4pc of Sierra Gale and using Feilian Beringal as his Main Echo ensure his DMG is maximized. As for his best weapon, Jiyan is in desperate need of weapons that increase his Crit or ATK, such as Verdant Summit, Lustrous Razor, or Autumntrace.

On the other hand, Yinlin needs 4pc of Void Thunder with Tempest or Thundering Mephis being her best Main Echoes in Wuthering Waves. She can easily activate the set’s passive to gain around 30% extra Electro DMG while her Mephis Echoes further enhance her stats. Her best Rectifier is her signature weapon, Stringmaster. She also works well with weapons like Cosmic Ripples and Augment since she also needs Crit and ATK% for her kit.

In terms of builds, both Jiyan and Yinlin are similar in their need for the same stats.

Role

Jiyan is a main DPS who spends a long time on the field dealing a significant amount of DMG. It’s important to complete his whole rotation since any early switch may cause a drop in the team’s DMG. At the same time, he can’t carry the entire team alone as he still needs buffers and healers to work with him. He’s also able to drive off-field DPS units’ DMG, which makes him one of the best DPS in Wuthering Waves.

As for Yinlin, at the start of her rotation, she’s able to mark enemies with her Sinner Mark and switch it later into Judgment Mark. These marks allow Yinlin to operate as an off-field Sub-DPS who’s capable of dealing massive DMG without stepping one foot onto the field. After placing the Judgment Marks, Yinlin can still stay on the field and operate as a main DPS, but her DPS will slowly start dropping compared to the dedicated main DPS in Wuthering Waves.

In terms of roles, Jiyan is a driver for his team, while Yinlin needs a driver, making them compatible in one team. On a serious note, Yinlin is more versatile as she can do both jobs without a huge drop in the team’s DPS.

After comparing their roles, it’s only natural to go over Jiyan and Yinlin’s best teams. As a main DPS, Jiyan can’t have another main DPS in his team or the team’s rotation will be greatly disrupted. He’s also a very offensive unit with no sustainability, which increases the importance of having a healer in his teams. His best pair is Mortefi since the Fusion character buffs his Heavy ATK while granting him an astonishing amount of firepower during Jiyan’s Qingloong Mode.

Yinlin is an excellent damage-dealer in Wuthering Waves that works well with almost every DPS and sub-DPS.

On the other hand, Yinlin set the field ready for the next character to trigger all her Judgment Strikes, allowing her to operate as a Sub-DPS. She also doesn’t possess any sustainability, so having a healer or a shielder in her team is always a plus. Her best pair is Calcharo, creating a quick-swap team with him. But, she can still work with many other DPS units without affecting their gameplay.

In terms of teams, Yinlin’s ability to deal off-field DMG and having a quick rotation puts her ahead of Jiyan in Wuthering Waves.

Pull for Yinlin if you:

  • Want a versatile Sub-DPS who’s capable of doing everything DPS-wise.
  • Want a Sub-DPS for any of your main DPS units, especially Calcharo.
  • Want to farm Void Thunder and one of the Mephis.
  • Have a Rectifier that increases her ATK or Crit.
