WoW: The War Within

While you can only ever have two professions on a single character in World of Warcraft, you are not limited that way with the secondary professions. You don't have to choose between Cooking or Fishing, you can have both. While it isn't mandatory, fishing is a useful skill for players to learn in World of Warcraft. Not only is it a good way to get materials for cooking, but also it is a good way to get cosmetics and make some money from selling fish on the Auction House.

Unlike other professions, Khaz Algar fishing has a maximum skill cap of 300 rather than 100. There aren't many changes to fishing in World of Warcraft: The War Within, but it is still a good way to spend some time while you are waiting in a dungeon queue.

Where to Learn Khaz Algar Fishing

As with any profession in World of Warcraft, the first step is to learn the skill. You can find a Fishing Trainer named Drokar in Dornogal at (X,Y) 50,27. There is even a Fishing Supplies vendor next to them as well.

Once you've learned Khaz Algar Fishing, it is not a bad idea to obtain a Algari Weaverline and attach it to your fishing pole. This item can be either crafted through Tailoring or by commissioning another player to make one for you via a Crafting Order. Algari Weaverline will allow you to obtain and use Algari Seekerthread and Algari Anglerthread. Both of these items permanently increase your Skill and Perception in Khaz Algar Fishing up to a maximum of 100. These two items can be obtained from fishing anywhere in Khaz Algar, or they can be purchased from the Fishing Derby vendor.

Hallowfall Fishing Derby

Weekend fishing events are not exactly new in World of Warcraft. The War Within added a new event every Saturday called the Hallowfall Fishing Derby. Unlike the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza or the long-since-removed Kalu'ak Fishing Derby, this is not an event where only a handful of players can win.

Every Saturday, Captain Oathmyt in Hallowfall will have a special quest. She will task you with catching three specific fish within one hour. If you are successful, you earn Mereldar Derby Marks which you can use to purchase items from her. Captain Oathmyt only spawns on Saturdays, so if you want to purchase anything from her, make sure to do so on Saturday as she doesn't show up on any other day.
