World of Warcraft has a few different versions running these days, and Season of Discovery is now in Phase 4 and players can finally grind all the way to level 60. That means characters that were already at the level cap can look forward to exploring some of those classic max-level dungeons with an SoD twist.
A few of the endgame dungeons in SoD Phase 4 are the vintage favorites from back in the day before there was an Outland, such as Scholomance and Blackrock Spire. These are the pre-raid dungeons where most players go to find rare and high-level materials and items, BiS gear, or to complete quests that are part of attunement chains and other important questlines only available to players nearing level 60.

Blackrock Depths: Upper City
Levels: 54-60
- Location: Between the zones of the Burning Steppes and Searing Gorge in the Eastern Kingdoms
- Important Quests: "Attunement to the Core" which allows sentence into the Molten Core raid, is available at level 55 from Lothos Riftwalker and completed in BRD
An old dungeon from the oldest days of Classic WoW, and one of many instances that's located in the gigantic mountain that straddles these two dark, sooty zones. The Upper City is one of the first endgame dungeons that most payers visit in Season of Discovery, and the lower-level Detention Level section is a nice hammock between mid- and high-level dungeons.
The dungeon that players often refer to as "BRD" is mostly the same when it comes to quests, enemies, and loot, and is divided into two major sections; the Detention Block and The Upper City. There are several quests available to each faction, which also makes it great for leveling.

Dire Maul
Levels: 54-60
- Location: Central Feralas
- Important Quests: The tome "Foror's Compendium of Dragon Slaying" drops here and starts the Quel'Serrar Weapon questline
Dire Maul is another big instance that includes different parts, but unlike BRD, each wing has its own entrance and unique design. It's not mandatory to visit certain wings first, but some contain loot, such as keys that make it easier to get into the next part of the dungeon.
East (Levels 54-60)
- Starts at level 54, which makes it the lowest level in Dire Maul
- Pusillian, a mini-boss in DM East, drops the Crescent Key, which opens the doors to the West and East wings
- "Arcane Refreshment" is a quest available for Mages from Lorekeeper Lydros in the Library
West (Levels 57-60)
- Warlocks and Paladins will visit this wing to complete their epic mount questlines
- Quests available to both factions include "The Madness Within" and "The Treasure of the Shen'dralar" from the Shen'dralar Ancient
- Begin the Arcanum enchant quests by speaking to Scholar Runethorn in Feathermoon (Alliance) or Sage Korolusk in Camp Mojache (Horde)
North (Levels 57-60)
- Finish the complete questline to become King of the Ogres, which turns all of the ogres friendly and rewards BiS Tribute gear
- Most of the enemies here are ogres and Warlocks as opposed to the satyrs and elementals in the rest of the dungeon
- Neutral quests in DM North include "Free Knot!", "Gordok Orge Suit" and "Unfinished Ogre Business"

Scholomance
Levels: 55-60
- Location: The island of Caer Darrow, Western Plaguelands
- Important Quests: Several chain quests start and end either here on the island, and eventually lead into the Eastern Plaguelands
Getting the Skeleton Key
Going all the way to Caer Darrow is going to be a waste of time if you can't unlock the front door. A long quest chain that starts in the faction settlements in the same zone is available at level 50.
- Alliance players should visit Chillwind Camp and speak to Aslam Valorfist to get the quest "Clear The Way."
- Horde players can find High Executor Derrington at the Bulwark with the quest "Scarlet Diversions."
The Quest Chain List
The quest chain for the Skeleton Key begins a trend of long quest chains for Scholomance, and many of them have links that must be completed outside of the instance.
- The Ghosts of Caer Darrow: Several spirits are wandering the island but when the player first visits, they can only talk to Eva Sarkhoff, a spirit standing by the main entrance. Listen to her story and she'll start the quest chain that rewards you with the Spectral Essence trinket that gives the character the ability to see and talk to all the island's spirits.
- Ras Frostwhisper: A nine-step quest chain that also starts with Eva Sarkoff and requires the Spectral Essence to finish.
- Plagued Hatchlings: A quest that starts in Light's Hope Chapel with Betina Bigglezink and gives Argent Dawn rep, which is important for endgame.
- Family Fortune: Delve into the sordid history of the Barov Family with "Barov Family Fortune" which is slightly different for each faction.
Class Quests
- Warlocks: Part of the Dreadsteed quest is completed here. It involves bringing the Imp in a Jar to Ras Frostwhisper's Alchemy Lab.
- Paladins: To obtain their epic Charger, Paladins must defeat Rattlegore and use the Divination Scryer in his room.
- Shamans: Complete the quest "The Darkreaver Menace" by killing Rattelgore and looting the Darkreaver's Head from his minions.

Demon Fall Canyon
Levels: 57-60
- Location: Southern Ashenvale, on the eastern side
- Important Quests: "Demonic Deceptions" is the attunement quest that all players must complete to access the dungeon
The demons that corrupt Ashenvale and the surrounding zones make their home in Demon Fall Canyon. Unlike the other high-level dungeons, Demon Fall Canyon isn't based on any older dungeon and doesn't exist outside of the SOD servers.
The Shadowtooth Illusion Ward
- Demonic Deceptions. Attunement is required to enter this dungeon, but it's a fairly easy process that requires finishing a single quest. Players from either faction can find the Shadowtooth Emissary in southern Felwood, a zone accessible via a centrally located road heading north. Kill a few pesky owlbeasts and be rewarded with a Shadowtooth Illusion Ward. Put on this trinket to gain access to Demon Fall Canyon.

Blackrock Spire
Levels: 57-60
- Location: Blackrock Mountain, on the eastern side
- Important Quests: Kibler's Exotic Pets and the lengthy Final Tablets quest chain along with killing Warchief Rend Blackhand
Blackrock Spire is divided into two sections with slightly different level requirements. This is one of the most important instances for players seeking BiS pre-raid gear and pushing for level 60.
Lower (Levels 57-60)
This instance is all about fighting Orcs, and for Horde players, these will be a rebellious or defiant faction that refuses to recognize Thrall's authority. It's a 5-player instance designed and intended to prep characters and their guilds for raiding.
- Kibler's Pet Quests. The spider and worg pets, some of the most coveted items in Classic WoW, are available through the quests "En-Ay-Es-Tee-Why" and "Kibler's Exotic Pets." Find Kibler in the town of Flame Crest to get each of them.
- Final Tablets. A famously long quest chain that starts with "Screecher Spirits" in Feralas and includes multiple high-level dungeons, including Lower Blackrock Spire, and eventually ends in Tanaris.
Upper (Level 60)
It's an instance but for 10 players instead of five, which makes UBRS another step in raid preparation. Warchief Rend Blackhand and General Drakkisath are deadly enemies of both the Horde and Alliance, and they're the final bosses of this dungeon. Both factions have slightly different questlines to assassinate him. Both are available once the character is level 55 or higher.
- Alliance. Overlord Wyrmthalak is one of the final bosses in Lower Blackrock Spire, and he'll drop an item called General Drakkisath's Command the first time the player kills him. Bring it to Marshall Maxwell in the Burning Steppes and he'll give you the quest to kill the General.
- Horde. Find Warlord Goretooth in Kargath and he'll give you the quest Warlord's Command. Go to LBRS and kill Highlord Omokk, War Master Voone, and Overlord Wyrmthalak and retrieve the Important Blackrock Documents. After a few more stops, Goretooth sends the player to Orgrimmar where Thrall gives them the final step in the quest; to kill the General.

Stratholme
Levels: 57-60
- Location: Northwestern Eastern Plaguelands
- Important Quests: "Of Love and Family," tells the story of Tiron Fondring, and "The Great Ezra Grimm" quest chain that starts in Light's Hope Chapel
Deep in the northwestern corner of the Eastern Plaguelands, one of the highest-level areas in Classic WoW is the ruined city of Stratholme. Famously the site of one of Arthas Menethil's greatest crimes in the RTS games, the old lore lives on in the haunted fires of Stratholme.
Some of the characters from back in eh day are still here, and their fates are grim ones. The surrounding countryside is equally dangerous, swarming with Scourge and corrupted Nerubians, so this dungeon is only for the game's final levels. In the future, this is also where the raid Naxxramus will be located.
Live (Levels 57-60)
The main entrance to Stratholme takes players to the "Live" section, but this description is misleading. The only thing left alive here are hostile members of the Scarlet Crusade. Most of the enemies here are Scourge and Undead. Players can access the Scarlet Bastion by taking the Scarlet Key from Arcanist Doan's chest after they defeat him.
Undead (Levels 58-60)
Speaking of keys, Magistrate Barthilas, one of the bosses in Stratholme Live, drops The Key to the City. This opens up the gate to get through Festival Lane and to the Undead side, along with providing access to the Service Entrance in the Eastwall Gate.
