Since the launch of the WoW Classic Season of Discovery, one boss has stood in many players' way of completing the newly revamped max-level Blackfathom Deeps Raid. After the first five bosses of the seven-boss Raid, Twilight Lord Kelris serves as the penultimate challenge of BFD, and he's arguably a more challenging fight than Aku-Mai for the unprepared party.
WoW Season of Discovery - What Class Should You Play?
All nine classes in World of Warcraft Classic got major updates in the Season of Discovery – but which class should you play in SoD?
But in the end, with the right preparation and strategies in mind Kelris is just a boss like any other, and as long as the Raid group abides by the fight's mechanics, things tend to go smoothly. This guide goes over what to do to prepare for Twilight Lord Kelris, as well as specific tips for each role (DPS, Healer, Tank) that you can reference for advice just before the fight.
Twilight Lord Kelris Overview: Abilities, Phases, & Preparation
Twilight Lord Kelris has two phases and four abilities that he will rotate through. Every ten seconds, he will cast Shadowy Chains, with Mind Blasts in between. Shadow Crash and Sleep are cast at regular intervals as well.
- Sleep: Two closest players are sent to a Dream World, where they must kill Priestesses until a portal appears. Coordinate with your Raid to determine who goes first.
- Shadowy Chains: AoE debuff that CCs players and applies a 70 damage-per-second DoT. Can be mitigated with a Free Action Potion, but should be interrupted.
- Mind Blast: Increasingly faster cast time as more Mind Blasts come out. Can be interrupted, but shouldn't take precedence over interrupting Shadowy Chains.
- Shadow Crash: Ranged spellcast that leaves a huge area of effect, dealing Shadow damage every second to those inside. Can be avoided by walking out of its area.
In Phase One, which lasts until roughly 35% of his HP remains, two of Kelris' abilities are interruptable: Mind Blast, and Shadowy Chains. These two abilities should be interrupted as often as possible by melee DPS and Tanks – especially Shadowy Chains.
In Phase Two, none of Kelris' abilities are interruptible, and he will seemingly randomly target melee DPS with Mind Blasts. But anyone can be targeted with these uninterruptible Mind Blasts, so it's essential for all players to bring along Shadow Protection Potions for Phase Two.
Twilight Lord Kelris: Tips For Each Role
Twilight Lord Kelris DPS Tips
- Interrupt every Shadowy Chains that the boss attempts to cast. It is cast about every 10 seconds in Phase One, so Rogues can Kick it every time on cooldown. Other DPS should focus on Interrupting Mind Blast.
- Pop a Shadow Protection Potion right before Phase 2 (at about 35% health) and nuke him down. Kelris cannot be interrupted in Phase Two and will constantly fire off Mind Blasts.
- Avoid standing in the Shadow Crash AoE area by checking your debuffs
- When transported to the shadow realm, kill Priestesses until one reveals a Portal to bring you back to the normal world. Kelris targets the closest players, and doesn't target the same players twice. Coordinate groups of two (Tank+melee DPS) to stand close and force Kelris to teleport them. Others should stand at max range to prevent being targeted.
WoW Season of Discovery: Best DPS Classes in SoD, Ranked
All nine classes in WoW Season of Discovery can play the DPS role, but some are capable of putting out much higher numbers than others.
Twilight Lord Kelris Healer Tips
- Heal as little as possible in Phase One to conserve mana for the much harder-hitting Phase Two
- If Shadow Chains isn't interrupted, use a Free Action Potion to prevent being CCed. Priests can also use Dispel Magic.
Twilight Lord Kelris Tank Tips
- Position the boss so that Ranged party members can still hit Kelris while avoiding the Shadow Crash AoE DoT. This can take practice to master, and requires careful coordination.
- Help DPS interrupt Mind Blast and Shadowy Chains in Phase One
- In Phase Two, use personal defensive Cooldowns to help Healers, and pop a Shadow Protection Potion right before he hits the 35% HP mark.
