Among the many new features in Phase Two of WoW Season of Discovery is the new epic crafting quest chain, tied to this Phase's max-level Raid, Gnomeregan. In SoD Phase One's Blackfathom Deeps, leatherworkers, blacksmiths, and tailors could acquire special materials and craft exclusive SoD Phase One epics.
WoW Season of Discovery: Grime Encrusted Ring Quest Walkthrough
The WoW SoD Grime Encrusted Ring quest has been updated for lvl 40 – its requirements are essentially the same, but now it rewards a max-level Ring.
But in Gnomeregan, and Phase Two, every SoD production profession has access to new epic SoD crafting recipes. By completing the new profession questline, and all the sub-quests that must be completed alongside it, Alchemists, Blacksmiths, Enchanters, Engineers Leatherworkers, and Tailors can purchase – and later procure materials for – these new Phase Two epic recipes.
What Is Grime Encrusted Salvage?
In SoD Grime-Encrusted Salvage is both the item that starts the Phase 2 crafting quest and an item that players must collect, and crack open, to get Phase 2 crafting materials. The item can only be acquired within the Gnomeregan Raid, and in order to complete its quest chain, you will need to run the Raid a few times.
Once you've collected your first Grime Encrusted Salvage SoD players are guided to Ziri, a Gnome in the Clean Zone of Gnomeregan. This area is only accessible after beating the first boss, and part of the quest chain requires items only acquirable outside of the Raid – plus more Grime Encrusted Salvage for crafting materials.
Once you have completed the SoD Grime Encrusted Salvage quest, a slew of rewards become available for purchase from Ziri. The vast majority of these are some of the best profession recipes in SoD Phase 2, but all of them require materials you can only get from opening Grime Encrusted Salvage. Some of the rewards will likely still be relevant deep into Phases 3 and 4, so it's a good idea to get the recipes unlocked before Gnomeregan is no longer the primary, and thus most populated, Raid in SoD.
Grime Encrusted Salvage SoD Quest Walkthrough
Step One: How To Get Grime-Encrusted Salvage in SoD
To start the Grime-Encrusted Salvage quest in SoD, players must first acquire one. It has a chance to drop in the Gnomeregan Raid from just about every mob, but bosses have a much higher chance to drop it. If you're lucky, the enemies leading to Grubbis (or Grubbis himself) will drop a Grime-Encrusted Salvage. But no matter when in the Raid that the item drops, it will lead you to the Clean Room.
WoW Season of Discovery: How To Get Student Fodder
Student Fodder is an incredibly useful, but very limited, XP-boosting item exclusive to the WoW Season of Discovery.
The Clean Room is a safe area within Gnomeregan that houses vendors, a mailbox, and two machines: the Sparklematic 5200, and the Salvagematic 9000. The Sparklematic is used for Grime-Encrusted Objects, a common item that drops random crafting materials when opened. The Salvagematic is currently broken, but with your help, it can be fixed and start cracking open Salvage for Gnomeregan-specific materials.
Step Two: Pick Up "Salvaging the Salvagematic" Quest in the Clean Room
After entering the Clean Room, and taking note of the Salvagematic, look for a Gnome named Ziri Littlesprocket. Talk to her and accept the quest "Salvaging the Salvagematic". Ziri asks players to collect some raw materials from professions and enemies around the Raid to put the Salvagematic back together again.
Though you can certainly enter the Raid with some materials prepared ahead of time, a few items can only be found in Gnomeregan, and one can only be acquired by completing a sister questline: "The Corroded Core".
Step Three: Collect Salvagematic Quest Materials
To repair the Salvagematic SoD players must collect 10x Mithril Bar, 5x Greater Mystic Essence, 3x GG12-082 Cartridge Fuse, and a Pristine G-7 CORE Processor.
Mithril Bars can be made by Blacksmiths, and Greater Mystic Essence are created by Enchanters – both can be purchased from the Auction House.
WoW Season of Discovery: Best Professions For SoD
Of all professions in WoW, these combinations work best for making gold, providing utility, or enhancing personal power in SoD.
To get GG12-082 Cartridge Fuse, kill Mechanical-type enemies within the Gnomeragan Raid. If you don't have enough by the end of the Raid, see if some other members of your group wouldn't mind knocking out a few more on the way out from packs you skipped.
The Pristine G-7 CORE Processor is your reward for completing "The Corroded Core" quest line.
- Begin by defeating and looting Techbot (just north of the entrance to the Raid in a side room), who drops the Corroded G-7 CORE Processor.
- Return to Ziri inside the Clean Zone (inside the Raid) and ask her about the Processor. She will direct you to Scooty, the goblin in Booty Bay who teleports Horde players to the Gnomeregan entrance, just below the Alliance Flight Master.
- Scooty will task you to find four Beacons across Kalimdor. Mount up and ride out (and take flight paths) to all four locations in Tanaris, Desolace, Feralas, and Dustwallow Marsh, then return to Scooty.
- Scooty will then teleport you to Wirdal Wondergear's location in Feralas. This Gnome is the only one who can repair the Processor, but he needs a Charged Voidcore.
- To make a Charged Voidcore, players need to get a Spent Voidcore and a Mote of Darkness. To get Spent Voidcore, kill Naga enemies on the island south of Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas. To get the mote of Darkness, just keep killing Naga until a Shadowy Figure appears and gives you one.
Finally, combine the two items, then return to Wirdal via Scooty's teleporter in Booty Bay. Complete the "Warranty Claim" quest to get the Pristine G-7 Processor, then head back to Gnomeregan.
Step Four: Head Back To Ziri & Fix The Salvagematic
If you are incredibly fast, or have Warlocks ready to summon you to each far-off location, it's theoretically possible to complete this quest line within the one-hour time limit. After finishing a Raid, and beating all Bosses, all NPCs in the Dungeon will despawn after an hour. But for most, you'll simply have to run the Raid again on another reset.
Either way, once you beat Grubbis and get into the Clean Room, simply talk to Ziri (with all the materials in your inventory) to complete "Salvaging the Salvagematic". This unlocks her inventory of profession recipes for purchase, at 25g apiece. It also lets you use any Grime Encrusted Salvage you collect in the future at the Salvagematic, rewarding you with crafting materials specifically used for these new SoD Phase 2 recipes.
