Though Phase One for WoW Classic's Season of Discovery did come with a PvP event – the Battle for Ashenvale – it wasn't exactly focused on PvP itself, as each faction would focus on downing world bosses belonging to the other side. In Phase Two, the Blood Moon event is a much more directly PvP-oriented event, one that only rewards players who directly kill enemy players.
WoW Season of Discovery: Best DPS Classes in SoD, Ranked
All nine classes in WoW Season of Discovery can play the DPS role, but some are capable of putting out much higher numbers than others.
Though it's possible to get Blood For The Blood Loa from mobs during the Blood Moon, killing other players is a much more effective (and much more fun) way of going about it. Aside from this event, choosing the best WoW SoD PvP classes means generally performing better in battlegrounds, future SoD PvP events, and making characters on PvP servers much less frustrating to level.
Mage
Unbeatable CC & AoE Damage
Mages excel in PvP in the Season of Discovery, though not for the same reasons they are so useful in Raid and Dungeon groups. While Mages in PvE are valued for their support abilities and unbeatable AoE damage, PvP Mages are much more reliant on CC.
Abilities like Frost Nova, Blizzard, and others that proc Frost are invaluable in staving melee opponents off, and provide the baseline set of skills that players will rely on. But with the addition of Runes, the burst damage potential of Frost mages matches its ability to control enemy targets. Just be sure to keep plenty of mana potions on hand, as you don't want fights to go on too long.
Warlock
Self-Sustain & Damage With Metamorphosis
One of the best classes for PvP in WoW Classic is the Warlock, thanks to its survivability and damage output. With abilities like Healthstone, Drain Life, and Life Tap, Warlocks can easily stay alive with plenty of mana. With all the Runes added in the Season of Discover y Destruction and Demonology Warlocks have gained a lot.
WoW Season of Discovery - What Class Should You Play?
All nine classes in World of Warcraft Classic got major updates in the Season of Discovery – but which class should you play in SoD?
The Metamorphosis Rune, specifically, is an absolute powerhouse for Warlock PvP builds. Though it's meant to enable the Tank role for Warlocks, because it increases Armor and defensives and Mana gained from Life Tap, it's extremely useful for PvP as well. Consider running this Rune alongside your other Warlock abilities, as long as its ability changes don't affect your rotation.
Rogue
Phase Two Turns Rogues Into PvP Menaces
In Phase One, Rogues – a traditionally PvP-oriented class – suffered in PvP thanks to an incomplete toolkit and the overwhelming power spellcasters had. Part of this was the max level being 25, which severely limited what Rogues had access to. Even with new Runes, Rogues couldn't quite keep up as easily.
But in Phase Two, with a max level cap of 40, Rogues can finally come into their own in all aspects of the game. With level 40 abilities, like Kidney Shot and Cheap Shot, and new Runes like Shadowstep, Rogues are going to be able to slip ina nd out of the shadows and do incredible burst damage without their opponents able to do anything about it. Just be wary of taking on more than one enemy at a time, as Rogues can quickly become overwhelmed when cornered.
Hunter
Pets Are Still A Nightmare In PvP
Though Hunters seem to have had Blizzard's attention since the launch of SoD, and have been on the receiving end of a number of nerfs and changes, the class is still a top-tier pick for SoD PvP. Because they have a pet (which can be extremely powerful on its own) as well as a ranged toolkit, Hunters give every enemy two targets to focus on.
WoW Season of Discovery: How To Get Aspect Of The Lion (Hunter Rune)
The Aspect of the Lion grants a huge stat boost to Hunters and their party members – to get this WoW SoD Rune, you'll need to head to the Wetlands.
Pair that with an extremely powerful base ability list and even more powerful Runes, and it's easy to see why Hunters have become a standard choice for SoD PvP. Funnily enough, melee Survival Hunters are finally proving to be one of the best PvE DPS specs, though Survival ultimately isn't as good as Marksmanship for PvP.
Druid
Stealth, Starsurge, & Survivability
Perhaps a surprise for some, Druids are actually one of the best classes for PvP in Phase Two because of the sheer power of some of their spells. Starsurge, specifically, is able to crit for more than 1k damage under the right circumstances, and Druids' support and buff-heavy toolkit gives them and their teammates an edge in PvP.
Balance Druids were eatin' good for the first week or so of Phase Two, when Starsurge's power was nearly completely unchecked. Even now, after a wave of nerfs reduced the once-OP ability's damage potential, Druids are still on top for PvP thanks to their huge variety of abilities that can get them out of – or control – almost any situation.
