Summary
- Clockwork Gnome starts strong due to self-healing and double attacking abilities, ideal against Beasts.
- Pebble is a unique quest reward with AoE abilities effective against Mechanicals and Aquatics.
- Calico Cat from Dalaran is crucial to have in the team, effective against Critter opponents.
With the new Pet Battle system now live in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, there are hundreds of battle pets players can find, fight, and tame. Adding this minigame to World of Warcraft has added a new activity with a lot of details, so it's easy for players to feel overwhelmed when it comes to which pets to level first.
Not all Battler Pets start at level one, and it depends on what zone they're in and how the player acquires them. The following pets are either either easy to find at low levels in the wilderness, rewarded from Achievements, or can be purchased from various pet vendors. They all start at lower levels, with some that appear in starting areas at level one, so be prepared for an intense training montage.
World of Warcraft Reveals Mists of Pandaria Classic Launch Schedule
Blizzard reveals how the launch of World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Classic will be spread out throughout the entirety of July.
7 Clockwork Gnome
Found Via Archaeology
- Pet Family: Mechanical
- Starting Abilities: Metal Fist, Repair, Build Turret
Any pet that can self-heal has an extra advantage, and those of the Mechanical designation often can, which is one of the family's advantages. The Clockwork Gnome sounds like something that should come from the Earthen ruins of Northrend, but it's one of the Rare items found through Archeology.
Burn through the levels by putting this tough little lugnut on a fighting team. With his combination of Metal Fist and Build Turrent powers, the Clockwork Gnome essentially gets two attacks at once. When things get tough, Repair can restore him to almost full hit points, so this little fighter can keep on ticking. Mechanicals are strong against Beasts, and there are plenty of snakes and cats in low-level areas.
6 Pebble
A Unique Quest Reward
- Pet Family: Elemental
- Starting Abilities: Stone Shot, Sandstorm, Rock Barrage
In one of Deepholm's dark, shiny alcoves is the Throne of Therazane, where players can travel and grind their reputation for glory, adventure, and cool stuff. One of the residents of this glittering cave is the plucky little Pebble, an earth elemental that got lost exploring his vast and dangerous home. Rescue him ten times as part of the "Lost In the Deeps" daily quest, earn the Achievement Rock Lover, and Pebble remains a friend and companion forevermore.
World Of Warcraft: Best Races For Hunters
World of Warcraft has many class options, and one of the oldest and most beloved is the Hunter role, which certain races are best suited towards.
Formerly just a cute and unique pet, Pebbles is now a tough fighting pet with two crushing AoE abilities. His three starting skills are strong against not only Mechanical targets, which is typical for an Elemental, but his Sandstorm ability is also effective against Aquatic pets.
5 Calico Cat
Purchased In Dalaran
- Pet Family: Beast
- Starting Abilities: Claw, Rake, Devour
There are all kinds of Cat companions. Just ask Donni Anthania in Elwynn Forest, and she can sell any player one if they would prefer a Cornish Rex or an Orange Tabby. The Calico Cat is one example of a neutral cat from a vendor in Dalaran that characters of either faction can buy, and it's important to have a powerful predator on the team.
Most of the animal players that will meet in the wild at early levels are Critters, which means rats, small deer, rabbits, and squirrels. Cats are from the Beasts category, and each of their abilities does extra damage against Critters. After a few easy levels, send the Calico Cat in to soften up the small furries, so that other pets can get some experience points.
4 Rusty Snail
Found On The Shores of Ashenvale
- Pet Family: Critter
- Starting Abilities: Ooze Touch, Acidic Goo, Dive
It might look like an Aquatic creature or even an elemental one, but this is a Critter with a punny name and an impressive array of abilities. Normally strong against the undead, this feisty little gastropod also has powers that do extra damage to Elementals and Flying creatures.
World of Warcraft Classic: 5 Rarest Battle Pets
Some pets are rarer than others in WoW Classic. Here are some of the rarest ones in the game.
Finding pets with various abilities is a huge advantage, since most pets are confined to special abilities attached to their family or type. Undead enemies will still be at a disadvantage with Acidic Goo. Meanwhile, Ooze Touch is strong against Flying pets, and Dive has a bonus against Aquatic ones.
3 Lost Of Lordaeron
A Restless Ghost
- Pet Family: Undead
- Starting Abilities: Shadow Slash, Siphon Life, and Bone Prison
The first undead battle pet that many players find has a sad story that references World of Warcraft's earliest lore. The residents of this former human kingdom still haunt its ruined halls and galleries, and this is where players can find the Lost of Lordaeron. Even though this is part of the Forsaken starting area, Alliance players won't have trouble finding a few strays hidden in the nearby fields and woods if they'd prefer to stay clear of the city.
All of the Lost of Lordaeon's abilities do bonus damage against Humanoid targets, which is typical of Undead pets, but the Arcane Explosion power awarded at level 16 is also effective against Flying enemies. Various skills are always an advantage, and this is just a cool thing to have.
2 Magical Crawdad
Remembering Mr. Pinchy
- Pet Family: Aquatic
- Starting Abilities: Snap, Renewing Mists, Whirlpool
The Magical Crawdad box was an exceptional treat for avid fisherfolk, another fun and exciting minigame in the World of Warcraft. If a player was lucky enough to meet Mr. Pinchy and have a wish granted, the reward was a Magical Crawdad along with the Achievement, "Mr. Pinchy's Magical Crawdad Box."
World Of Warcraft: 10 Best Cataclysm Dungeons
Players on the hunt for the best Cataclysm Dungeons in World of Warcraft don't have to look much further than the following examples.
An Aquatic pet, the Magical Crawdad is resilient against the Undead and has abilities that damage both Critters and Elementals. This pet is vulnerable to Flying creatures, and at level 20 gets a powerful ability called Wish that can bring a fallen pet back from the dead.
1 Darkmoon Eye
See It At The Faire
- Pet Family: Magical
- Starting Abilities: Focused Beams, Inner Vision, Interupting Gaze
There's a new game to play for fun and fabulous prizes at the Darkmoon Faire, and that means a new daily quest. Ambitious pet trainers should find Jeremy Feasel and successfully challenge him. Winners receive a bag of Darkmoon Pet Supplies that have a chance to drop this strange creature from the Magical family of Battle Pets.
Magical companions are part of an unusual group with equally unique and terrible powers, and this one isn't hard to find, so players should grab it while this event is live. His two offensive abilities, Focused Beams and Interupting Gaze, do extra damage to pets of the Flying type.
