Ranking The Oldest MMORPGs (That Are Still Online Today)

MMORPGs can have great longevity if made correctly. Here's a look at some examples of old titles that are still online today.

Along with the wealth of content that The War Within introduces, players must level up their characters and gear. Players interested in progressing and remaining current throughout the expansion must be on top of what needs to be done early. This is especially prominent in this period before season one, as players who have prioritized their progression will be in great standing for further progression in season one and beyond.

1 Level To 80

First Things First

World of Warcraft War Within Level 80

The War Within comes with a new level cap of 80. As always, players must level through the expansion content to reach this new level cap. This can be done through the campaign, side quests, dungeons, delves, gathering, or other assorted open-world activities. Reaching the level cap is the first important step in character progression, allowing players to tackle the max-level content to gear up.

There is a further benefit to reaching the level cap in The War Within. This is the unlocking of adventure mode and the Warband experience boost. Adventure mode allows alternate characters to level up through world quests, and the Warband experience boost means that for each level 80 within a Warband, a subsequent character will gain 5% extra experience, up to a cap of 25%. This means that getting to level 80 on one character makes it easy for the next to do the same.

2 Finish The Campaign

Stay Up To Date

World of Warcraft War Within Campaign

As is expected within a new World of Warcraft expansion, The War Within has introduced a new campaign full of quests that deliver the narrative of each War Within zone. This campaign provides an engaging and varied questing experience, along with introductions to new systems and mechanics.

Players must finish this campaign so that they have traveled to each of the zones and are aware of the new mechanics. It is also important, as players cannot access world quests until the campaign has been completed on a character, resulting in content being locked unless the campaign is finished. As new patches are released, more campaigns will be introduced. It is of paramount importance that players ensure they keep completing these campaign quests.

Get Into A Schedule

World of Warcraft War Within World Quest

Daily quests are a large part of progression in The War Within, be they world quests or the daily quests found as part of the Spreading The Light event.

Humans are anything but ordinary in World of Warcraft, and these characters prove it.

These daily quests not only award players with reputation for each of the four reputation factions but also vendor currencies that are needed to buy gear and items from the reputation quartermaster. A solid routine of daily quests can help gear characters, gain reputation and currency, or even level alternate characters when utilizing the adventure mode coupled with world quests.

4 Level Other Characters

World of Warcraft War Within Warband

The War Within introduced a universally praised system known as Warbands. This system allows players to share reputation level and currency across multiple characters, regardless of faction or server. This essentially means that War Within reputation is faction-wide, and any currency collected on one character can be easily transferred to any other, to allow for easy catch-up. This system has added a far greater level of cohesion among characters and has promoted the use of alternate characters.

With that being said, any players who enjoy utilizing alts can rest easy knowing that their efforts on one character will be felt by all of their characters. This system creates a unique opportunity for reputation gain, allowing one character to reach the max level and unlock adventure mode for the others, wherein the other characters can do world quests and side quests to help increase the warband reputation. This, alongside the experience boost for using alts, provides much-needed encouragement to vary the use of characters, even proving to be an optimal way to gain currency, reputation, and gear across all characters in a Warband.

5 Farm Rares And Treasures

Keep An Eye Out

World of Warcraft War Within Treasure and Rare

With the new zones introduced in The War Within, so too are players introduced to a host of new rare mobs and treasures. These are frequent and players are likely to never be too far away from either a treasure or the spawn point of a rare mob. Players should always ensure they at least kill any nearby rare mobs, although collecting treasures is also highly beneficial. A great way to know if a rare mob or treasure is nearby is via the use of the add-on, RareScanner by maqjav.

The world of Azeroth has faced some terrible threats from some dastardly villains over the course of the Warcraft franchise.

Rare mobs spawn on timers and can be killed and looted for a series of rewards. These rewards always consist of reputation for one of the four major factions and some vendor trash. If players are lucky, they may obtain a mount or piece of high item level gear, and while not as prevalent a strategy as in Dragonflight, rare mobs can still offer a viable way to obtain item upgrades. Treasures often give players gold and experience, with profession-specific treasures providing players with much sought-after profession knowledge.

6 Get Used To The New Dungeons

Know Your Mechanics

World of Warcraft War Within Dungeons

Players who are well-versed in World of Warcraft will know that each new expansion comes with a series of new dungeons, half of which will then be used within the first Mythic+ rotation in season one. War Within is no exception, the new dungeons are as follows:

  • The Rookery
  • The Stonevault
  • Priory of the Sacred Flame
  • City of Threads
  • Cinderbrew Meadery
  • Darkflame Cleft
  • The Dawnbreaker
  • Ara-Kara, City of Echoes

Players will be tackling four of these dungeons in Mythic+ when the new season comes around. Players must get familiar with these mechanics and any routes that may be implemented, as the dungeons will likely be the best repeatable source of gearing, alongside the new delves. The dungeons will only become more difficult as Mythic+ levels increase, thus a base understanding early on will benefit players in the long run.

7 Increase Your Reputation

A Valuable Resource

World of Warcraft War Within Reputations

Reputation is an age-old mechanic in World of Warcraft, going through many iterations to reach the point it has in The War Within. The new Warband feature has meant that reputation across the four factions is account-wide, allowing players to increase their reputation on any one of their characters.

The four main reputation factions in The War Within are The Council of Dournogal, The Assembly of the Deeps, Hallowfall Arathi, and The Severed Threads. Each of these reputation factions unlocks a wide range of abilities, including profession recipes and the ability to buy gear on reputation faction quartermaster. Players will gain reputation from many sources, including side quests, world quests, rare mobs, and a plethora of other activities. As more patches are released, the reputation cap for each of the four factions will increase, meaning players should prioritize ensuring they stay up to date with their reputation leveling.
