Players can blast their way through various levels with three of their friends, taking control of one of four unique characters, each with their own abilities, weaponry, and distinct roles. The trailer unveiled that Projekt Z: Beyond Order will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as a PC launch. Projekt Z: Beyond Order will find players in the thick of World War 2, trapped on a mysterious island occupied by the Nazis after their plane crash-lands there. From here, players will have to set up a base of operations, gather resources in order to survive, and battle through waves of Nazi soldiers as players attempt to uncover the truth behind the ambitious project that turned all the island's inhabitants into monsters. By finding more information and even other people who are stranded on the island, players can piece together the mystery of what happened on the island and why.

When players aren't blasting their way through hordes of zombies, they will likely be interacting with an element of Projekt Z that was not featured in the trailer, the Hideout. The Hideout System introduces a base-building mechanic in which players can construct buildings, gather and talk with various NPCs, and upgrade their own equipment. The Hideout will act as a hub for players, being a breath of fresh air between excursions within the island in which they can recuperate, enhance their gear, or figure out a game plan of what to do and where to go next.
