World of Warcraft features a ton of customization options for players to utilize, allowing them to create characters that look exactly how they want with relative ease. One of those customization options is glyphs, which alter the look of certain spells to fit class fantasies and aesthetics.
Naturally, players may eventually decide they no longer like certain glyph effects and want to remove them. Thankfully, this can be done easily and with little cost. It's just a case of knowing how and where to do it.
How to Remove Glyphs in WoW
To remove Glyphs from spells, players first need an item called Vanishing Powder, which can be purchased from both the Auction House and from general goods sellers by profession trainers in most major cities in World of Warcraft. This item will only cost players 15 silver at the Auction House, and 40 from a general goods vendor for a stack of 5.
Once you have the item, it's as simple as following these steps:
- Right-click the Vanishing Powder in your inventory; the spellbook should automatically open.
- From here, find and select the spell with the attached glyph effect; this can be denoted by the slight pink flare on the top left edge of the spell.
- Right-click the spell, and the glyph effect will be removed from the spell.
From there, players can choose to apply a new glyph by purchasing one from the Auction House, making one if they have the Inscription profession, or leaving it as its original effect and look. It's worth noting you will need to remove the glyph effect on each specialization if you have applied it across multiple ones.
Do Glyphs Do Anything Other Than Cosmetic Changes?
Glyphs offer no advantages or changes to your gameplay or abilities and are purely a cosmetic choice that alters spell appearances.
This wasn't always the case, though; when glyphs were first released back during Wrath of the Lich King, these items offered unique effects and tweaks to spells and abilities and were a key part of player power during the expansion. There originally were two types of glyph, major and minor, and these would alter and enhance classes as players leveled up to level 80. These were changed in Legion and became the cosmetic only retail players will be familiar with.
That's everything about how to remove glyphs from your spells, so players can now choose how they want their class abilities to look. Whether they prefer to use the old Shadowland appearances on certain spells or fancy returning to the original look, it's entirely up to player preference to craft their character how they like.
