In an upcoming update to World of Warcraft, players will have a new option in their group loot window that will allow them to roll for cosmetic items easily. This new option will arrive as a response to a change to the loot rules that World of Warcraft made during a previous update that made hunting some weapon and armor appearances more challenging for players.When World of Warcraft launched Patch 10.0.5 in January, Blizzard changed the group loot rules in a way that prevents players from rolling "need" on items that are not considered upgrades. For example, warriors cannot roll "need" on a chest piece or tier token that is from the normal or raid finder difficulty of the Vault of the Incarnates raid they own the same piece of loot or gear from heroic difficulty. This puts them at the mercy of losing out on the prize they want via the "greed" roll system, depending on how many other players cast their lot. However, a new option will soon give players an alternative way to get a specific weapon or armor appearance without interfering with players that can roll need for an upgrade. Recently, some dataminers uncovered a new transmog roll option in the data for World of Warcraft Patch 10.1 Embers of Neltharion. The way this new option will work, according to the uncovered data, is a new group loot option will be added to World of Warcraft that will replace rolling "greed" with a "transmog" option if a player has not collected an appearance that their class can use. While this will not be prioritized over need rolls, the new transmog roll option will supersede greed rolls in certain circumstances, and give World of Warcraft players that collect new cosmetic appearances a new and hopefully easier way to get the loot they want.
Though Patch 10.1 will not go live until May, players may soon be able to properly test this new group loot option on the public test realm (PTR) in the coming days. The next raid coming to World of Warcraft, titled Abberus, The Shattered Crucible, will be available for testing on normal and heroic difficulties this weekend, starting on Thursday, April 6. While Blizzard stated that some known issues with this new transmog roll option are present on the PTR, such as warriors rolling on leather armor pieces, and transmog rolls not having priority over greed rolls, those problems will be addressed before Patch 10.1 goes live.
With continued improvements to the system in each patch, it is easy to see why World of Warcraft has one of the best transmog systems in video games today. Only time will tell what further improvements can be made to the transmog roll system in the future.
